What Is the 2025 Toyota RAV4?

The Toyota RAV4 is a five-seat compact SUV that comes standard with a 203-horsepower four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trim levels, with all-wheel drive available. For drivers who want to maximize their fuel economy, Toyota also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the RAV4. The hybrid pairs the RAV4’s four-cylinder with two electric motors, for an output of 219 hp, while the RAV4 PHEV has a punchy 302-hp powertrain and an EPA-estimated all-electric range of 42 miles. AWD is standard on hybrid and PHEV models, which use an electric motor to power the rear wheels. Ample cargo room, a user-friendly infotainment touchscreen and a long list of active-safety features help the RAV4 compete with its numerous rivals, which include the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Bronco Sport, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

The RAV4 Hybrid offers 20.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its backseat, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements. Check how it performed in our Car Seat Check.

What’s New on the 2025 Toyota RAV4?

Toyota pares down the regular gas-engine RAV4’s lineup for 2025; the off-road-oriented Adventure and TRD Pro trims are discontinued. The RAV4’s PHEV version was previously named RAV4 Prime, but Toyota has switched to a more descriptive moniker: RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.

The RAV4 last received a complete redo for the 2019 model year, so it’s among the older designs in the compact SUV class. A new-generation RAV4 is in the works and will likely be introduced as a 2026 model.

What Features in the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • “Hey Toyota” voice command system
  • Satellite radio
  • Three USB ports
  • LED headlights
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning with steering assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Power liftgate
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated outboard rear seats
  • 10.5-inch touchscreen
  • 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
  • JBL premium stereo
  • Wireless device charging
  • Rearview camera mirror
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

Should I Buy the 2025 Toyota RAV4?

Even though it isn’t the freshest design in the segment, anyone in the market for a value-conscious compact SUV should put the Toyota RAV4 on their shopping list. It’s comfortable and roomy for its class, and three available powertrains make it adaptable to all sorts of SUV shoppers. Performance and fuel economy are commendable with the standard four-cylinder and hybrid powertrains. The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, meanwhile, is an under-the-radar speed demon that also boasts a laudable 42 miles of electric range. Just take note: The RAV4 becomes a pricey proposition when scaling up to range-topping trim levels or the PHEV.

  • Excellent car, excellent service.

Excellent car, excellent service. I have a custom built RAV4 Limited so I paid a bit more than the MSRP for a standard RAV4 but it was worth every cent. This is my first SUV and my third Toyota. I really can’t say enough good things about it. It’s about the same size as most compact SUVs but it has plenty of room inside and is quite comfortable. The features are unreal. It does everything except drive itself but it will stop itself if you’re about to hit something. :) I’ve only had it about a month but based on my other Toyotas I hope I’ll have this one years to come. I gave my 2003 Camry to a friend and it is still running!
