Parent automaker GM is recalling more than 81,100 Chevrolet Equinox EV electric SUVs over an issue with the pedestrian warning sound, which may be insufficient.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2025-26 Equinox EVs. The pedestrian warning sound may not be loud enough and may fail to alert pedestrians of a moving vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
To resolve the issue, the body control module software will be updated by a dealer or in an over-the-air update for free. GM will begin notifying owners Feb. 2, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact the automaker at 800-222-1020 (GM’s number for this recall is N252530690), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
