Headquartered in Newark, Calif., Lucid Motors is an electric-vehicle startup that made headlines with its inaugural vehicle, the Air luxury sedan. Lucid was founded in 2007 as Atieva, a builder of EV batteries and powertrains, but rebranded itself in 2016 and announced it was going to be an automaker itself.

The Air debuted for the 2022 model year with distinctive styling, acceleration that ranged from quick to blisteringly quick and world-beating driving ranges of up to 520 miles. An ultra-performance Sapphire trim followed, boasting an astonishing 1,234 horsepower and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 1.89 seconds. Lucid’s model lineup expanded for 2026 with the Gravity, a low-slung, two- or three-row SUV.
