The BMW iX3 grabbed the top prize, 2026 World Car of the Year, at the World Car Awards during the 2026 New York International Auto Show, as well as the 2026 World Electric Vehicle award. The iX3, an all-electric compact SUV, is a bold design that features an anticipated range of up to 400 miles. It’s expected to go on sale in the U.S. in summer 2026.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, the performance version of the now-discontinued Ioniq 6, wowed the World Car jury with its 601-horsepower and 545 pounds-feet of torque, which can be boosted for a 10-second spurt to 641 hp and 568 pounds-feet of torque via Hyundai’s N Grin Boost feature.
Another EV, the Lucid Gravity, won the 2026 World Luxury Car award. This three-row all-electric SUV features an upscale interior with innovation tech. It features a driving range of up to 450 miles.
Two vehicles that aren’t available in the U.S. won the remaining awards: The all-electric Firefly, a Chinese EV, won World Urban Car, and the Mazda 6e received the 2026 World Car Design of the Year award.
The World Car Awards recognize automotive excellence and innovation. Ninety-eight jurors, including Cars.com’s Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Newman and Managing Editor Joe Bruzek, from 33 countries test-drive new and fully redesigned cars that are sold in at least two continents.
