What's the Nissan Versa's MPG?
What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- The Nissan Versa has been discontinued for 2026.
- The Versa was the single most affordable new car in 2025 and one of the most fuel-efficient.
- Thousands of new Versas remain in dealer inventories nationwide.
The Nissan Versa will go down in history as the last new car sold in the U.S. with a base price of less than $20,000. Even after Nissan discontinued the manual transmission, which pushed the Versa to the high side of that threshold, the subcompact sedan remained the most affordable new car in the country until the whole model line was dropped for the 2026 model year.
However, thousands of new Versas are still available in dealerships nationwide. The car is a solid one-two punch for shoppers on a budget: In addition to its affordable sticker price, it is one of the most fuel-efficient cars available today.

By the Numbers
The Versa is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower and 114 pounds-feet of torque. Nissan offered a five-speed manual transmission at the beginning of the 2025 model year, but it was discontinued, and a continuously variable automatic became standard through the year. Nissan charged a small premium for the CVT, but it brought about a substantial increase in the Versa’s fuel economy. Below is the fuel economy by transmission.
| Trim | Powertrain | City MPG | Highway MPG | Combined MPG |
| S | 1.6-liter, manual transmission | 27 | 35 | 30 |
| S, SV, SR | 1.6-liter, automatic transmission | 32 | 40 | 35 |
