What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • The Kia Telluride is fully redesigned for 2027.
  • Turbocharged four-cylinder engine replaces outgoing model’s standard V-6
  • Available hybrid powertrain rated as high as 35 mpg combined, according to Kia

New from the ground up for 2027, the Kia Telluride is larger, more spacious, more comfortable and more luxurious than before. It also replaces the outgoing model’s naturally aspirated V-6 engine with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder.

The turbo-four trades high-rpm horsepower for low-end grunt, its 274 hp and 311 pounds-feet of torque giving up 17 hp to the old V-6 but representing an increase of 49 pounds-feet. The all-new Telluride also offers the model’s first hybrid powertrain, in which electrification lifts the 2.5-liter’s output to 329 hp and 339 pounds-feet.

By the Numbers

The new Telluride’s standard engine improves around-town response and is vastly smoother than the old V-6, but it does not meaningfully improve fuel economy. The V-6 returned an EPA-rated 20/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined with front-wheel drive and 18/23/20 mpg city all-wheel drive. According to Kia, the turbo-four only improves upon the highway fuel economy with AWD, but the combined rating is the same. The hybrid powertrain, on the other hand, increases the Telluride’s combined fuel economy by more than 50%.

While the hybrid’s starting price is some $7,300 higher than the non-hybrid’s, the hybrid lineup opens with the non-hybrid’s mid-level EX trim. The price difference between equal trim levels is a more reasonable $2,700.

The fuel-economy figures listed below are manufacturer-estimated; official EPA figures for the 2027 Telluride are not yet available.

Versus the Competition

The hybrid powertrain makes the Telluride one of the most efficient SUVs in the mid-size three-row SUV class, trailing only the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid. The standard turbo-four’s fuel economy, however, fails to stand out from the crowd.
