What Car Shoppers Need to Know:

  • The 2026 Honda Accord hybrid returns up to 48 mpg combined.
  • The non-hybrid Accord is rated at up to 32 mpg combined.
  • Accord pricing starts at $29,590; the hybrid starts at $34,990 (all prices include destination).

The Honda Accord is quite simply one of the all-time great family cars. This mid-size sedan blends a spacious interior with a generously sized trunk, unparalleled ride and handling balance, and a low price of entry. Both its standard four-cylinder engine and available hybrid powertrain also offer excellent, budget-friendly fuel economy.

By the Numbers

The Accord’s standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 192 horsepower and 192 pounds-feet of torque, mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. It returns a best of 32 mpg combined in the base LX trim.

The Accord Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Touring get a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that generate a combined 204 hp and 247 pounds-feet. The lone transmission is a CVT, and, like the standard powertrain, the Accord hybrid is only available with front-wheel drive. The hybrid tops out at 48 mpg combined.

The most affordable hybrid Accord, the Sport, has a base price that is $3,100 higher than the similar SE trim. Based on average driving habits, the hybrid driver would spend roughly $420 less on gas per year than the non-hybrid driver, meaning it would take about seven years to make back the price difference in fuel savings. The hybrid does, however, include additional niceties such as a larger touchscreen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Versus the Competition

The non-hybrid Accord’s fuel economy leads its competitive set in fuel economy. While the hybrid’s efficiency is impressive, the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata eke out slightly better figures. The Camry’s biggest draw over the Accord and Sonata hybrids is its optional all-wheel drive. Both the Honda and Hyundai hybrid sedans are only available with FWD.
