Toyota is recalling approximately 550,000 examples of its Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVS over an issue with the second-row seats.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-24 Highlanders and Highlander Hybrids. The issue involves the recliner assemblies in the second-row seats, which may not fully lock after adjustment. An unsecured seatback may fail to restrain occupants in the event of a high-speed crash, increasing the risk of injury.

To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the return springs in the recliner assemblies with improved ones for free. Toyota will notify owners by early May, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-331-4331, visit Toyota.com/recall, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
