Ford’s latest recall affects more than 412,700 examples of its Explorer SUV and involves the rear suspension toe links, which may break.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2017-19 Explorers. The rear suspension toe links in these vehicles may fracture. Drivers may notice a clunking noise, unusual handling or that their rear wheel is misaligned. A rear toe-link fracture may cause the vehicle to lose steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will replace the toe links for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 9; in the meantime, owners with further questions may contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (the automaker’s number for this recall is 21V537), the National Traffic Safety Administration vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
