Ford Adds New Safety Features to 2010 Ranger

The stability control system will be the same one that’s in the new F-150, and it puts the Ranger in the company of other small trucks with stability control, like the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Hummer H3T and Toyota Tacoma. The only difference is that the Ranger also has a roll-prevention system.

In the event of a rollover (one of the most fatal types of accidents), the Ranger can brake individual wheels and cut engine throttle in an attempt to keep the vehicle grounded. The new side airbags will prevent head and chest injuries to front passengers, which will likely improve the side-impact crash-test rating.

The current Ranger has a four-out-of-five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a Marginal rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2010 Ford Ranger will go on sale this summer.
