South Korean automaker Hyundai announced a stop-sale of its model-year 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid three-row SUVs’ Limited and Calligraphy trim levels March 13. The move was prompted by the death of a child that involved the power-folding rear seats. Four days later, Hyundai issued a formal recall of some 61,000 vehicles with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Now, related automaker Kia is recalling a much smaller population of its model-year 2027 Telluride Hybrid SUV — 568, to be exact — for the same issue.

The second-row power seats in SX-Prestige and X-Line SX-Prestige trims equipped with the Executive Package may not detect a person, so the seat may continue to move during powered-seat functions, as in the one-touch tilt-and-slide or automatic power fold-and-stow features, even if it is occupied. As a result, an occupant may become trapped by the seat, increasing the risk of an injury. Children are especially at risk.
The remedy for both vehicles is still currently under development, though Palisade owners may visit their local Hyundai dealer for a power-seat-control software update. Until the remedy is available and performed, owners are advised to exercise caution when using the rear power-seat functions and to keep children away from the rear seats during power-folding operation. Hyundai will begin notifying owners May 16; Kia’s letters will go out May 19. Those with further questions in the meantime can call Hyundai at 855-371-9460 (its number for this recall is 296), Kia at 800-333-4542 (its number is SC366), or visit NHTSA’s website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
