BMW is recalling nearly 87,400 vehicles, including a population of Toyota Supras, over an issue with the starter motor that may cause a fire (the Supra’s powertrain was developed together with BMW’s Z4).

The issue in affected vehicles includes the starter motor, which may overheat and catch on fire, increasing the risk of injury.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the engine starter for free. Owners will be notified March 24, but those with further questions can contact BMW at 800-525-7417, Toyota at 800-331-4331, NHTSA’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
