Ford is expanding on two previous recalls with a new one for more than 24,600 examples of its Escape Plug-in Hybrid SUV, as well as the plug-in variant of the Corsair SUV from luxury arm Lincoln. The recall involves the vehicles’ high-voltage battery.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2023-25 Escape PHEVs and model-year 2023-26 Corsair Grand Touring trims. The high-voltage battery in these vehicles may have a manufacturing defect in one or more cells that may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure, increasing the risk of a crash or fire.
A remedy is currently under development. For now, Ford advises owners to only use their vehicles’ Auto EV mode and only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% battery capacity until a remedy has been completed. Interim letters notifying owners of the issue will be mailed March 6; a second letter will be sent out once a remedy is available. Those with further questions can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 25SC4), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
