Ford redesigned its midsize SUV for 2015 with fresh styling, new engines and a host of additional safety systems. The Edge also earned better crash test scores for the 2015 model year. In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing, the two-row SUV earned a five-star rating — the agency’s highest score, and one star more than the last-generation Edge earned.
Both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions of the Edge received five stars overall, five-star scores in front and side crash tests, and a score of four in NHTSA’s rollover tests. The previous Edge earned just three stars in front crash tests, but a four in rollover testing and a five in side testing; its overall score was four stars.
Edge competitor the redesigned 2015 Nissan Murano earned an overall rating of just four stars from NHTSA. Similarly, two-wheel-drive versions of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee earned four stars overall, but four-wheel-drive models earned five stars.
