When your car’s instrument display fails to, well, um … display the instruments, it’s like, “Come on, man — you had one job to do!” No automaker is immune from glitches, malfunctions and system failures resulting in sometimes massive federal recalls, and among the latest is Toyota, which is recalling some 82,000 model-year 2024-25 Land Cruiser SUVs and Mirai sedans, plus model-year 2024-25 UX and GX SUVs from its luxury brand Lexus. The culprit is the instrument panel, certain areas of which may go blank upon the vehicle starting, resulting in important warnings or indicators not showing up and increasing the risk of a crash.

We cover the vital info in one of Cars.com’s most popular news stories of the past week, a report on the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Toyota has already announced a remedy for the defect — a software update in the combinator meter — and owners of affected vehicles are slated to be notified starting in late July. Owners will then be able to take their vehicle to the dealer for the free fix.

In better news, car shoppers in the market for a new Ford Maverick can score some attractive incentives on both the 2025 and 2026 model years of the pipsqueak pickup truck, available nationwide. In cash offers, up to $3,000 in dealer cash could be coming your way for either model year, or a $1,000 consumer rebate on the 2025 only. Also available on the ‘25 Maverick are financing deals. And more good news: You have more than a month — through the Monday following the Fourth of July holiday weekend, to be exact — to find your Maverick on a dealer lot. Then again, if you’re seeking out the cheaper and rarer 2025 truck (1 out of 10 versus the 2026, per Cars.com inventory), you’re gonna need the extra time.
