Fuel-Efficient SUVs a Big Deal
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing among all-new and redesigned SUVs is the inclusion of more fuel-efficient hybrids either as standard or optional equipment. The Toyota RAV4 is now only a hybrid, which is a massive change for one of the bestselling vehicles out there, though it does come with a higher entry-level price. Elsewhere, the three-row Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade gain new optional hybrid versions, as does the subcompact Subaru Crosstrek. Plus, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee returns for 2026 as hybrid-only.
All-Electric SUVs a Big Question Mark
There’s a big question mark around electric-SUV demand in 2026 with the canceling of the $7,500 federal tax rebate in 2025. Momentum from an explosive growth of new all-electric SUV models over the last few years hasn’t stopped yet, however, and new EVs like the BMW iX3, Rivian R2 and Volvo EX60 aim to introduce more affordable electric SUVs alongside their flagship counterparts.
Toyota and Subaru alone have four all-new EV models between them thanks to a partnership that shares vehicle development. The result is the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker (admittedly more like a wagon than SUV) and smaller 2026 Uncharted, while Toyota’s versions include the 2026 bZ Woodland and smaller 2026 C-HR.
