Jeep has brought the Cherokee compact SUV back to its lineup for the 2026 model year. And there's a lot to talk about with this thing. It is bigger than ever. It's bolder than ever.
And most importantly, it's got nothing but hybrid power trains for now. That is pretty cool. I'm Aaron Bragman, the Detroit Bureau chief for cars.com, and I've come here to sunny Southern California to drive the all new 2026 Jeep Cherokee Turbo Hybrid. And let me tell you this turbo hybrid, we got some things to talk about with this. So a turbo hybrid, yeah, the Cherokee is all hybrid. It's got a 1.6 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, made it to an electronically-controlled, continuously variable automatic transmission with two electric motors and a lithium-ion hybrid battery. Now what does all that mean? 210 horsepower, 230 pounds feet of torque, which is competitive, but it also supposedly gets 37 miles per gallon combined and over 500 miles of range. That is pretty significant. But how does it actually drive? Well, Jeep's first ever pure hybrid system is actually quite good. It's got plenty of grunt when you put your foot down, but given that this is a continuously variable transmission, you'd expect it to be a little bit of a assault on your ears. It's not. It's a very quiet powertrain. There's a lot of sound insulation and a lot of refinement in the powertrain as well. So, you get moving, you got good fuel economy and it's not obtrusive at all. And how does the rest of the Cherokee feel beyond the hybrid powertrain? Really quite good actually. The ride quality is outstanding. There's not a lot of road or powertrain noise at all. The steering is very heavily boosted, which is what I've found to be the case in all of these new Stellantis products. But the driving experience is refined, it's calm, it's comfortable. Good job, Jeep! Overall, the new Jeep Cherokee for 2026 is an excellent effort. The prices range from about $36,000 up to about $46-47,000, and they're on sale right now. Given all the refinements, the extra room, the hybrid powertrain, the fuel economy, I think Jeep's done an excellent job with the new Cherokee.
