What Is the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander?
The Toyota Grand Highlander is a three-row SUV with room for seven or eight people. As the name implies, it’s a larger, roomier version of Toyota’s regular Highlander SUV, with most of the added space going to the third row and cargo area. Three engines are available, starting with the base 265-horsepower, turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder. Two hybrid drivetrains are also available, including a 245-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder setup and a 362-hp, turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder powertrain called Hybrid Max. Front- and all-wheel drive are available with the conventional turbo four-cylinder and the 245-hp hybrid engine, while the Hybrid Max comes standard with AWD. Competitors of the Grand Highlander include the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride and Volkswagen Atlas. Â
What’s New on the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander?
A new entry-level LE trim has been added to the lineup of both the regular and hybrid-powered Grand Highlander for 2025. The Grand Highlander Hybrid also gains a Nightshade trim, which adds 20-inch black alloy wheels and blacked-out exterior trim pieces. The Grand Highlander made its debut in Toyota’s extensive lineup for the 2024 model year. Â

Should I Buy the 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander?
The Grand Highlander is exceptionally well rounded and has a lot to offer car shoppers looking for a mid-size SUV with a touch more space inside. Cargo volume and third-row comfort are big pluses, as is the available hybrid powertrain’s fuel economy. The rapid acceleration afforded by the 362-hp Hybrid Max is another asset, though its gas mileage falls well short of the less powerful hybrid’s. Aside from a fussy available digital instrument panel and overly firm ride with the optional 20-inch alloy wheels, there’s very little not to like here. One factor that might ding the appeal of the Grand Highlander for some SUV shoppers, though, is its price — especially higher trims, which streak well past $50,000.
