Affected vehicles include model-year 2009-10 Cubes. The driver’s airbag in affected vehicles may detach from the steering wheel during deployment, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect the front airbag inflator serial number and replace the inflator, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 27. Those with questions in the meantime can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261 (the automaker’s number for this recall is R26A1), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
