What Car Shoppers Need to Know

- Up to 357-mile EPA-rated range

Tesla’s Model Y compact SUV now sports a full lineup with the arrival of new base trim levels for both the rear-wheel-drive Model Y and all-wheel-drive versions. There are two trim levels for each drivetrain, as well as a Performance trim that’s capable of rocketing from 0-60 mph in a claimed 3.3 seconds.
Release Date and Pricing
The 2026 Tesla Model Y electric SUV is on sale now. Full pricing is as follows:
- Base RWD: $41,380
- Base AWD: $43,380
- Premium RWD: $47,380
- Premium AWD: $51,380
- Performance AWD: $59,380
New Entry-Level Trim
The new entry-level trim, which Tesla simply refers to as Rear-Wheel Drive, includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and a hands-free power liftgate. Inside are cloth seats with synthetic leather accents, heated power front seats and a heated steering wheel. Cabin tech consists of a 15.4-inch touchscreen, seven speakers and two wireless phone chargers. The base Model Y All-Wheel Drive adds a second electric motor for more power and traction but gains no other equipment.
It’s a $6,000 price increase from base to Premium for the RWD Model Y and $8,000 for the AWD, but the two gain the same equipment: upgraded suspension for a smoother ride, 19-inch wheels, full-width LED light bars front and rear, and a panoramic moonroof. The Premium trim also overhauls the interior with perforated synthetic leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, power-reclining and folding second-row seats with heating, a power tilt/telescoping steering column and ambient lighting. It also upgrades to a 16-inch touchscreen with — oddly — FM radio and 15 speakers and adds an additional 8-inch touchscreen in the backseat. The only difference between the RWD and AWD Premium trims is the latter’s available third-row seat.
The 2026 Model Y Performance keeps all of those goodies and adds an adaptive suspension, 21-inch wheels and additional front-seat adjustability — plus a load more power.
Standard safety tech on the Model Y includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, lane-departure steering assist and a dashcam. The necessary cameras and sensors for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) functionality are standard on every Model Y, but activating it requires a $99 monthly subscription fee. All buyers get a free 30-day trial, however.

Range and 0-60 MPH Claims
Tesla prefers not to share output figures for its vehicles, instead relying on 0-60 mph acceleration claims to provide context for its vehicles. Tesla must downrate the entry-level RWD model’s electric motor, as the brand says it needs 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 versus 5.4 for the Premium RWD.
With the additional motor on the front axle, both the base and Premium AWD Model Ys need a claimed 4.6 seconds to hit 60 mph. The Performance can do the deed in just 3.3 seconds.
The Premium trims also enjoy a range advantage over the entry-level models. The base RWD has a claimed range of 321 miles against the Premium’s 357. The cheaper AWD Model Y is good for 294 miles, while the Premium is rated for 327. Its powerful motors sucking down electrons more quickly, the Performance has a range of 306 miles.
Base trims can add up to 160 miles in 15 minutes on a Supercharger, Premiums 182 miles and the Performance 144.
| Trim | 0-60 MPH (Seconds)* | EPA-Rated Range (Miles) | Max Added Range in 15 Minutes on Supercharger (Miles)* |
| Base RWD | 6.8 | 321 | 160 |
| Premium RWD | 5.4 | 357 | 182 |
| Base AWD | 4.6 | 294 | 152 |
| Premium AWD | 4.6 | 327 | 169 |
| Performance AWD | 3.3 | 306 | 144 |
