What Car Shoppers Should Know

  • Dodge has opened orders for the new 2026 Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition, featuring the big 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 as standard equipment for the first time.
  • The motor makes 475 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque.
  • The R/T 392 Launch Edition starts at $51,990 (including destination).

Dodge has announced that the new 2026 Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition is now ready for orders at your local dealer. The bit that makes this interesting is that Dodge has stuffed the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood as standard equipment for the trim, the first time it’s done this.

The last time we saw the 6.4-liter Hemi, it was offered up in the 2024 Durango SRT 392 with a starting price of $76,590 (with destination), and a lot of that SUV’s high-performance equipment comes in the 2026 Durango R/T 392 with a big price reduction.

The Most Powerful R/T Ever

The 2026 R/T 392 Launch Edition’s starting price of $51,990 (all prices include an eye-popping but mandatory $1,995 destination fee) is actually several thousand dollars cheaper than the 2025 R/T’s original $56,090 starting price (before a subsequent price drop) for a hell of a lot more high-performance equipment and horsepower. Most prominent is the inclusion of the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, the “392” engine (for its cubic-inch displacement) pumping out 475 hp and 470 pounds-feet of torque, sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.

Compared to the old 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 in the last R/T, this represents 115 hp more, 80 pounds-feet more torque and a 0-60 mph time that drops from 6.2 to 4.4 seconds. It also comes with standard performance equipment like adaptive dampers, red Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes, an electronic limited-slip rear axle, high-performance exhaust, SRT performance electronic drive modes and a tow rating of 8,700 pounds. The transmission also gets a shift lever in the center console — no rotary shifter here, you instead have a choice of steering-wheel paddles or the “M-gate” shifter to manually change gears if you so desire.

Looks to Thrill

Stylewise, the R/T 392 Launch Edition gets body-color fender flares, red “392” badges, a rear spoiler and 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels on massive Pirelli Scorpion Zero run-flat 295-series tires. A Blacktop Package is available that murders out the look with gloss black exterior trim, black exhaust tips, and 20-inch “Lights Out” black wheels. Nine exterior colors are available, including the new Green Machine shade, while five colored stripe options are also offered.

The interior comes well finished, too, with heavily bolstered, heated and ventilated Nappa leather and suede seats as standard, plus heated second-row captain’s chairs. But if you want it a little fancier, Dodge is offering the Premium variant that adds an 18-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, leather-wrapped instrument panel and door trim, carbon-fiber interior trim bits, a suede headliner, moonroof, upgraded two-piece brake rotors for better cooling, a Trailer Tow Package, and a full suite of safety and driving convenience features that includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. All of this adds $7,600 to the price of the R/T 392 Launch Edition for an MSRP of $59,590.

Why This Is Remarkable

The Dodge Durango lineup is remarkable for a few reasons. First, it hasn’t had a major redesign since the latest generation was introduced for the 2011 model year, with just some minor styling updates, interior equipment improvements and multimedia system upgrades over the years.

Second, the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 was supposed to be gone with the Last Call version of the Durango for the 2024 model year — but the elimination of most emissions and fuel-economy regulations by the U.S. government has resurrected all of Dodge’s Hemi aspirations, much to the thrill of Dodge fans, and Hemi V-8s now power the majority of the Durango lineup, with only the base GT and GT Plus models still getting a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6.

Paying $52,000 for a high-performance 6.4-liter V-8-powered SUV in 2026 is extraordinary, especially considering that this is just about the price of an average new vehicle in the U.S. Note that there’s no mention of fuel-economy ratings in this story — and there were none provided by Dodge with the announcement of the R/T 392 Launch Edition now being on sale. Frankly, if fuel economy is your thing, this isn’t your SUV anyway. But if going fast, looking good, sounding better than any electric SUV could ever possibly hope to, and getting a performance bargain in the process is, the 2026 Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition is going to be exactly what you’re looking for.
