What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • The 2027 Infiniti QX65 SUV is based on the QX60, but it features a coupelike roofline and a greater focus on style versus space.
  • Power remains the same as the QX60, with a 268-hp, turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
  • Deliveries begin in the summer; pricing starts at $55,535 (including destination).

The trend of offering up SUVs with chopped roofs continues with Infiniti joining the club courtesy this, the new 2027 Infiniti QX65. Tracing its roots back to the O.G. SUV “coupe,” the 2003-12 Infiniti FX that was ahead of its time, the new QX65 — appearing at the 2026 New York International Auto Show — is based on the more traditional QX60 three-row SUV but with a unique roofline and sheet metal to give it a decidedly racier appearance. Unlike the old rear-wheel-drive V-8-powered FX50 however, the QX65 retains a front-wheel-drive platform (with all-wheel drive as standard) and four-cylinder turbocharged engine in keeping with most modern crossover-style SUVs.

The styling is the key to the QX65, as mechanically, it’s largely identical to the more traditional QX60. But the appearance has been modified to give it a swoopier, most sporting stance. A dramatically arched roofline definitely recalls the old FX and gives Infiniti a competitor to the German luxury brands that made the current crop of “SUV coupes” popular — vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLC coupes, BMW X4 and X6, and Audi Q6 Sportback (the latter only available as an electric vehicle, however).

The front end also receives changes from the QX60, with a new “three-dimensional” grille meant to evoke a Japanese bamboo forest and a new signature light pattern that welcomes the driver to the vehicle. Styling is also different in the rear, with a new full-width LED taillamp that features aircraft-inspired vertical fin elements. And kudos to Infiniti for retaining a rear wiper for clearing the big hatchback glass, something not all competitors come with.

Twenty-inch wheels will be standard on the lower Luxe and Sport grades, while 21-inchers come on the top-spec Autograph trim. Of special note is a new paint that Infiniti will be debuting on the QX65, Sunfire Red; it includes three layers of “gold-coated glass flecks” for a metallic shimmering look in direct sunlight. We’ll have to see for ourselves in person at the show.

Luxury Trim, Loaded Interior

Unlike the QX60, the QX65 is a five-occupant SUV — there’s no third row in the QX65 for two extra passengers, ‘cuz where would you put ‘em? The second row slides, reclines and folds to maximize available cargo room, with 35.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 67.7 cubic feet when the backseat is folded.

Controlling things is done through a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen running the latest Google Built-In operating software. It accompanies the 12.3-inch driver information display behind the steering wheel, but a bonus of sharing its interior means it still retains buttons instead of going entirely touchscreen as many competitors have. The climate-control panel is separate and does employ a few knobs, but it’s a capacitive-touch panel with dedicated spots for various functions.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are four USB-C ports (two front, two rear). A standard wireless charging pad upfront has magnets to keep personal phones in place in an optimal position and a fan to reduce heating when charging. The good premium audio system comes in at the Sport trim with a 16-speaker Klipsch Premium system delivering 600 watts, an 8-inch TriPower subwoofer and 1-inch titanium dome tweeters; upgrade that to 20 speakers and 1,200 watts for the Klipsch Reference Premiere system in the top Autograph trim.

That top trim also has Individual Audio: head restraint speakers for the front driver and passenger that allow the driver to hear things like map guidance or a favorite playlist without disturbing sleeping passengers in the backseats. Items like available ambient lighting add to the specialness.

Powering the QX65 is also the same running gear featured in the QX60: a variable-compression turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 268 hp and 286 pounds-feet of torque. It’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and drives all four wheels through standard AWD. It’s not our favorite powertrain at Infiniti, but the brand says it’s been tuned for sportier performance in the QX65 with improved shift performance (our main complaint with the QX60), so we’ll reserve final judgment for a drive of the new SUV coming in April. Towing capacity is 6,000 pounds — not that anyone’s taking a camper anywhere with this thing.
