What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- Audi released a teaser of the upcoming 2027 Q9 full-size three-row SUV, its biggest ever offering.
- The Q9 will feature innovative technology like automatic opening and closing doors, a light-up articulating panoramic glass roof and a new premium Bang & Olufsen sound system.
- A full reveal is planned for July 2026; no specs or powertrain details have been released.
The biggest family hauler ever from Audi is on the way, set to be fully revealed later this year. For now, we get a sneak peek at the new three-row 2027 Q9’s interior a few months ahead of a full look. It’s a full six- or seven-seat luxury SUV from Audi, billed as a business class conveyance, chock full of new features and firsts for the brand. While it’s just a peek, the new Q9 looks to be an interesting addition to the brand.

How Big Is the New Audi Q9?
The new ‘27 Q9 is Audi’s largest passenger hauler to date. The company says it will be available in six- or seven-occupant versions and will feature three rows of seats with adjustability to allow for accommodating full-sized passengers.
The second-row captains chairs in the six-occupant version will be electrically operated and vented and heated, as will the front seats, which will get massage function, as well. The third row features electric folding operation. A three-passenger center bench seat will be available for bigger families in the seven-passenger option, and Audi says that every seat position in the second row will be able to accommodate child seats.

What New Interior Features Will the Audi Q9 Have?
While the pictures and computer-generated teaser videos depict an interior filled with screens and touch-sensitive control panels, there are a few interesting new features coming in the Q9. First are automatic opening and closing doors, which we’ve seen in other vehicles like the BMW 7 Series, Cadillac Escalade IQ and Genesis G90. They open and close with a key, the myAudi phone app, the onboard multimedia screen, by tapping the brake pedal upon entering or even with the seat belt buckle. Sensors on the exterior of the vehicle prevent the doors from opening if there’s not enough room to or if approaching vehicles or cyclists are detected.
There’s also a new standard panoramic glass moonroof debuting in the Q9 that features some interesting new tech. It’s an electrochromic roof, meaning it can turn any of its nine individual segments opaque at the touch of a button, eliminating the need for a rolling fabric sunshade. Here’s where it gets cool: On the top trim, the roof features an 84-LED-light array to allow the roof to change to one of 30 colors to match the rest of the interior’s ambient lighting. But what makes the new roof unique is that it still opens and slides, using compact articulation equipment in the roof.
The interior lighting will get some next-level design, as well, with Audi saying that “full and atmospheric” lighting will be available for the entire interior, including the rear doors and seats, and it even integrates into the updated Bang & Olufsen sound system to change ambiance to match the music’s cover art. The sound system is something Audi is referring to as a “4D” system, which will incorporate actuators in the front seats to add feel to the music, not just sound.
Cargo carrying also gets a boost with a new aluminum rail system integrated into the sides of the cargo area that will allow for sliding anchor points and hooks in back, elevating and securing cargo and leaving the load floor for bulky items. Audi says that every Q9 will also have a standard roof rack and rails.
What Else Do We Know About the 2027 Audi Q9?
Not much. Audi has only released information on the interior of the Q9 but nothing about actual dimensions, specs, powertrains or drive info. Pricing and the on-sale date are still to come, as well. But when we have more information on the new Audi Q9, we’ll be sure to post it here.
