Stellantis Recalls 61,000-Plus Jeep Cherokee SUVs for Loss of Drive Power

Jeep parent automaker Stellantis is recalling more than 61,700 of the brand’s Cherokee SUV over an issue with the power transfer unit, which may fail.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2019-23 Cherokees. The power transfer unit may fail, causing a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, both of which the risk of a crash or injury.

The remedy is currently under development. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed June 25; additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. In the meantime, owners with further questions may contact Stellantis at 800-853-1403 (its number for this recall is 40D), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
