Interested in a new EV? There are a lot of models that are new or updated for 2026 and 2027 that might just be right for you. I'm Mike Hanley, cars.c
om Senior Road Test Editor, and these are some of the EVs you can see and ride in at the Chicago Auto Show. The Ioniq 9 brings the sensibilities of Hyundai's Ioniq 5 to the three-row EV class, with a roomy interior, space for up to seven people, quick DC fast charging, and more than 300 miles of range. The Jeep Recon offers the open-air freedom of the Wrangler in an electric vehicle with its removable doors and glass. And while it's designed for off-roading, it's also pretty quick, with a zero to 60 time of just 3.6 seconds. However, its rated range is relatively modest at just 250 miles. Nissan has transformed the Leaf from a basic commuter car to a sleek and stylish crossover. But despite its futuristic appearance, it's still really affordable with a starting price of less than $32,000. And we recently named it cars.com's Best New Car of 2026. The Polestar 4 gives the all-electric brand a coupe-like SUV in its lineup. And while it keeps Polestar's minimalist design aesthetic, its most unique design element is perhaps its lack of a rear window. Instead, you get a rear-view camera-based system to see what's behind you. This is the new BMW iX3. It's similar in size to BMW's gas-powered X3, and it's gonna offer up to 400 miles of range. It starts at around $60,000 and it goes on sale this summer. Subaru has a trio of EVs at the show, the Uncharted, the Trailseeker and the Solterra. They're all roughly the same size, but they have different design. The Uncharted is more of a coupe-like SUV, the Trailseeker has a wagon shape to it, and the Solterra's more of a conventional SUV. If you like what the Cadillac Escalade IQ offers but it's just a little too big and a little too expensive, you should check out the Cadillac VISTIQ. It's a three-row electric SUV. It's a little bit smaller, it's less expensive, but it still offers a lot of great technology. The Bolt is back in Chevrolet's lineup for 2027 with an affordable starting price of right around $30,000. It offers more than 260 miles of range, quicker DC fast charging, and available Super Cruise hands-free driving. These are just a few of the EVs that are new for 2026 and 2027.
