Video: 2026 Mazda CX-5 Interior Review: Finally Fixing the Biggest Problem

om, and I got to spend the day with the 2026 Mazda CX-5 and its much bigger interior. Front seat comfort in the CX-5 was never really a problem, and it isn't now either. You've got plenty of room up here, excellent visibility thanks to the low dashboard and beltline, and the material quality is fantastic, especially on this Premium Plus model, where you've got leather seats and really nice stitching in the dash and this two-tone interior. But the space up here is just fine. It's the space in the backseat that always was a problem, but not anymore. Check out the space back here now. Mazda stretched the wheelbase of the '26 CX-5 by four and a half inches, and all that room went to the backseat and the cargo area. I've positioned this seat where I would normally sit, and I'm about 5'11", and I got a lot of extra padding, so I can actually sit behind myself without a problem. There's plenty of knee room, plenty of foot room underneath the seat as well. The improvement to the usability of this backseat is extraordinary. One of the other beneficiaries to that change in how they're packaging this and putting a four-and-a-half-inch stretch to the wheelbase is you got more cargo room than you did before. The ceiling is higher, so the opening is bigger. You can fit bulkier things in here than you could before, or maybe you just got book bags and pie. The 2026 Mazda CX-5's changes to its interior packaging and the increased length of that wheelbase really turned this thing from the runt of the litter to the pick of the pack.
