What Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact SUV that competes against the likes of the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4. One of the things that sets the Tiguan apart from these rivals is that it offers an available third row of seating, pushing seating capacity from five to seven, but that third row is very cramped. Under the Tiguan’s hood is a 184-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder that’s coupled to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available, but choosing AWD nixes the available third row.
What’s New on the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?
Volkswagen gave the Tiguan a thorough freshening for the 2022 model year and hasn’t changed it significantly since. For 2024, the base S trim comes standard with VW’s IQ.Drive driver-assist system (essentially adaptive cruise control with lane departure steering assist), as well as features like automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers and wireless smartphone charging.

Should I Buy the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?
The Tiguan is certainly worthy of a test drive. It has the understated refinement you expect from a German automaker, but be sure to carefully check out the touch-sensitive controls on upper trims; we’ve found them to be finicky. The turbo four-cylinder engine provides only modest straight-line speed, but it’s good on gas and smooth in operation. The available third-row seating is intriguing, but only if you need those extra seats occasionally, and only for kids. With the third row occupied, cargo space is in very short supply.
