Love VWs

Purchased a 2010 diesel Sportwagon. 5th VW wife and I have owned in 44 years of marriage. Handles well and has a good firm stearing at high speeds. Diesel gets over 40mpg around town and speeds under 50. Heated seats a must since it takes a diesel some time to heat all that oil in winter. Have had no problems starting in cold weather (Northwest NJ) VWs highly rated in crash tests which is good, since this is a replacement for a 7 year old Golf diesel destroyed in a car crash from which we had monor injuries.

A hot pocket rocket with extraordinary mpg.. tdi

This thing is a upscale "economy car" with sauce under the hood. We tried the hybrids but this has more get up and go than they do and gets about 42 mpg average. Ours has all the bells and whistles and the interior will last longer than most other cars we've owned... Lincoln, Mercedes and Jaguar included. It could us individual side controls for the air and heat, but that's about it. Hand controls for the seat are small, but let's not pick nits... It is a great car... gets around 47 on the highway.

Changing my review- 2010 Jetta S

Unfortunately, I will have to downgrade my review from 2010. Shortly after its purchase, it started making a horrible grinding/rattling noise. Took it back and forth to the shop several times before they finally had to replace the sway bar (this was at around 20k miles). It has also had all of the o-rings on the tires replaced because they kept leaking and triggering the low tire pressure sensor. It had an oil leak- always fun. Now, at a whopping 31,000 miles, the transmission is going and will need to be replaced. I've still got about 5k/1 yr left on my warranty but have already started looking for a new car. I will definitely be trading it in before the warranty expires...I do love the look and feel of the Jetta but I need something more reliable. Such a shame.

VW Jetta TDI 6 Speed

I owned this car for just over a year and a half. During that time I had to have the rear rotors and brake pads replaced, under warrantee, due to rust and damage to the rotors. The car was very reliable but, had a very sensitive clutch that made the car prone to stalling by anyone not used to driving it. It was tiring on long drives although it handled very well and was fun to drive. A lot of attention to detail was paid to the interior layout of the Jetta but, the exterior styling was somewhat mundane. I felt the car was too small for my comfort and the sloping hood made me feel like I was in a fishbowl as you could not see the front of the car when driving. All in all it was a good car that got mid 40's mpg combined. Unfortunately it was not the car for me. I do miss the mileage!

Great Car Excellent value and truely the best mpg.

The car is very economical and truely a fun car to drive easy to manage. Carrys a load with a very large trunk space and 4 adults can travel comfortably. I am very impressed and happy with my choice.

What's not to like?

This is an awesome car to drive. Fun, fun, fun....and the mpg - unheard of. Why won't the Americans build a car like this. I get 33 mpg in the city and 44+ mpg on the highway. The turbo gives it incredible torque while the 4 cylinder, diesel engine gives it incredible gas mileage. No problem finding diesel fuel, either. The trunk is cavernous and there is plenty of leg room for 4 adults. I'm over 6' and no one has complained about leg room while sitting behind me. I got the 6 speed manual because I think it is more fun to drive but you can't go wrong with the DSG. Compared to my SUV that got 18/23 mpg, I estimate that I've SAVED roughly $1,300 in fuel costs over 10 months and 13k miles of driving. What's not to like?

Awsum MPG's...Y don't I see more on the roads..?

I upgraded in mid October 2010 from my 2003 Jetta "2point Slo" with manual 5 shifter to my FIRST automatic with DSG...I think it means Duel Shift Gear. TDi stands for Turbo Direct Injection...but I think it really means Turbo Diesel Injection... Plus it sounds better... My TDi has everything I've always wanted..! Way more room and power with a much higher level of fuel efficiency... From the same size 14.5 gallon tank. With my gasoline 2003 I got about 28.387mpg's and now I get about 43.781mpg's with an automatic..! I wish VW would get on the ball already and make a TDi Hybrid...I wonder how many more mpg's I would get..!

Great car overall

I got my 2010 Jetta in October 2010 as a new/used car. Handles great, very comfortable in both the front and rear seats, nice interior and exterior styling, and excellant safety features. It performed beautifully in one of the worst CNY winters we've had in awhile and I always felt safe driving it despite the weather at times. One nice thing about it is that it has an Ipod jack right in the console. Just plug in an adaptor and your Ipod/mp3 player will play right through the speakers. Very handy. I've only had it for a few months but so far it has been reliable. One thing I didn't look into before I bought it was how much maintenance would cost. So far, everything from windshield wipers to oil changes has been more expensive than when I had my little Ford Focus. Not a huge issue but definiately something I wish I had known. It also doesn't get the greatest gas mileage (not bad though either). Again, I'm used to my previous Focus and this car has a lot more power/weight to it, so this is understandable. I do love this car and have gotten many compliments on it. I would recomment the Jetta overall.

2010 TDI CUP

I'm loving my Jetta so far. Perfect blend of performance and practicality with the GLI suspension and TDI motor. I am happy I purchased the DSG transmission given the short revs of the diesel motor. Visually, the car stands out with the body kit and 18 inch wheels but not in a tacky way. The quality of this car certainly place it a level above others in it's class. I am uncertain about the reliability at this time as the car is still very new. It seems repairs could be costly should something go wrong. Time will tell. It also is expensive for a Jetta but it's full of technology and premium featres. It could be a tad faster in the straight line but it's hard to argue with 45MPG + on the highway and the driving dynamics of a real German sedan. Take a chance.
