Cool but uncomfortable
I bought my 2014 Toyota 4Runner for the reliability of a Toyota and for the rugged looks and styling. It was definitely reliable and fun to drive but the seats, especially the front seats were among the least comfortable seats of any car I've ever driven or been a passenger in. For this reason, I sold my 4Runner.

Best car & Best brand!
Im a bit of a Toyota Fanatic! I absolutely love the reliability of their vehicles! I've owned several Toyota's but this 4Runner has got to be my favorite! Its 4.0 V6 has all the power you'll need! I've drove it about 800 from WV to FL for vacation and the 4Runner was awesomely comfortable! As other posts have mentioned, the 4WD doesn't allow you to make steep turns in snow without it feeling like the park break is pulled. My personal opinion is that power is evenly distributed, making it difficult to make the steep turns but i nothing close to a mechanic. Other than that, i absolutely have no complaints!

2014 SR5 Premium 4Runner - Not my Favorite
I agree with T. from Denver, Colorado. I have been leasing a 2014 Premium model 4Runner for the past year. While I do like some things about it, my major complaint has to do with the 4WD which leaves a lot to be desired! While driving in snowy conditions with 4WD engage I cannot make turns or back up, I actually have to dis-engage it! It is as if the emergency brake has been applied to keep the vehicle from moving. I have owned other 4Runners, a 2000 SR5 and a 2003 Limited and prior to that other SUV make/models. I NEVER had to dis-engage 4WD to make a turn or back up in any of them. When I brought the SUV to the dealership to be looked I, told the mechanic what was happening, he looked at me as if I were crazy! He told me "that it is "normal" and how 4WD is supposed to work as power needs to be distributed evenly to all 4 wheels". It is NOT "normal". Maybe it would be if 4WD was a new concept, but it is not! This is my first time leasing a vehicle.....I am so happy I decided to do so. Needless to say, when my lease is up next year, I am handing the keys back. We have been Toyota customers for many years, but if Toyota does not fix the 4WD issue in the 2016 model, it kills me to say I will be re-evaluating my loyalty. Toyota has gone backward with the 4Runner regarding performance (and style)! It's too bad!!

Certified 4Runner
I recently purchased a 2014 Certified 4Runner SR5 with leather and nav. I absolutely love this truck! I drive a lot of miles for work and have owned several cars including luxury sedans. I enjoy the driving experience of my 4Runner more than anything I've owned and the reliability and resale value speaks for itself!

Very good truck
SR5, the best car I have ever owned. Bought it new, now 4 month old, no problems at all. Very good quality, comfortable, high ground clearance, lots of space. Fun to drive off road to our fishing spots. Rugged body on frame, no rattle, real SUV. Fun poor.

Under-powered, gas-guzzling brick...
2 weeks ago I sold my 2014 4Runner premium and I could not be happier. I bought it new in January 2014 to replace my 2002 4Runner premium that was sadly totaled by someone who ran a red light. First off, this new body design is ugly, do not kid yourself or try to convince yourself otherwise, be honest, I was not. It has too many pieces, angles and creases. The front looks like a bass and the protruding headlights and taillights are not only ugly but aerodynamically they are a detriment to the overall design, and they scratch easily. The gas mileage is terrible. I knew it would be poor, but after 8,000 miles my average was 14.8 and this is combined city and highway. The engine is not much different than the 6 cylinder from previous years, but the weight is significantly more, I mean significantly more, so this translates to a very under-powered vehicle. They need to use the small 8 from the previous sport model. The 4WD is terrible. It binds very early in the turn, even in very slick conditions, so much so that you lose about ? of your turning radius ? this was never an issue in the older models ? and the turning radius is bad enough as is. The traction control will not turn off, even when you try to override it by pushing the button. This can be dangerous when off-roading. It disengages for a few seconds then kicks back on ? why? I said off, stay off. The interior feels cheap and it is cheap plastic, the knobs are enormous and it feels like a kid?s Tonka truck. Who needs a 2 inch knob for the temp and fan right in your face? The ?leather? is cheap leatherette and it is very thin, not to mention black is really your only good-looking option. The sand color is just a black interior with tan seat covers, the contrast looks terrible. The navigation system is good. I will admit that the Entune system is easy to use, easy to access and it worked very well, it is the best thing about this vehicle. There are few options now for truck-based SUVs, everything is now a car platform cross-over, so you have very few choices. I would buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Nissan Xterra (can?t believe I just said that) over this any day. We love Toyota?s, so I am not bashing the brand; we also have a Lexus RX 350. Toyota needs to go back to the drawing board and use elements from the late-90s to 2003 model, which was their best and most reliable 4Runner. When I traded this in several people at the dealership agreed with all of my comments, I am not the first person to bring any of this up. If you are considering a new 4Runner, make sure you test drive everything else first, don?t follow me down the path of frustration and regret.
