Worst Maxima??
Service Engine Soon [hereafter SES] came on soon after buying this slick, 70000mile manual tranny Maxima. Code said: Catalytic Converter.... bad news... 3 of them on this car and it cost $800 from an independent mechanic. Very soon afterward, it came on again, and as it ran ok, I ignored it for 2 yrs and had to smog it for the license. Code said O2 sensor, ok, $260 later, we're good, except the day it went to the smog guy and the light was back on. The first mechanic clicked the light off, said drive 50 miles. It smogged with FLYING colors. Very low output of all bad gases. 2 days later, SES light is back on where it remains. This car has eaten 4 alternators in the 3+ years I've owned it. The most recent one is only 1 month old and it is working intermittently. I never know how far to drive this piece of junk. Oh, the rear suspension pivots began to leak oil. Dealer said there is no oil there... hmm what's that on my driveway. Well, like a British Car, it quit leaking when all the oil ran out, It still drives ok, but I wonder when it will cause problems. It's my 3rd Maxima, loved the other 2, I hesitate to buy another one of these things... Mel

Owned This Car The Longest
I have had 65 cars in my 63 years as I usually trade about every 2.5 years. I bought this car new in 2000 and still have it after 9.5 years and 175,000 miles. It is great looking, comfortable, still gets 26 on the highway and is very reliable. I have done some things as you should have to in 9 years but I will never sell it as it will always be worth more to me than what I can get for it. The photo was at 160,000 miles

Excellent Ride
Bought used in 8/03 with 21k miles, just sold to my niece in 9/09 with 83k. Excellent, reliable car, plenty of power, adequate gas mileage (22 mpg avg). Normal service items ( tires, brakes) Nice styling, wife loved the heated leather seats.

My second Max and it just gets better and better!!
I used to own a 1996 Max GXE and it was amazing!!! The engine had 180K at the end of its life. No tranny problems just normal wear and tear. The car was totaled unfortunately but it is very, very safe (Trust Me on This one!!!) It is a thirsty one and needs 91 octsne. The 2ooo GLE is very quick and handels well. There is some body roll but it is much impoved. I had the ECU re-programed for max tourque and power. With that little change, this car just flies!! It hits 60 in 6.2 seconds and can out accelerate BMW's (3 and 5 series. An M5 and M3 are definetly faster!) But for around $10-12 grand you can get a luxorious, fast and a true FOUR DOOR SPORTS CAR!! I recommend a struttower brace, a performance air filter and the ECU reprogram. The 1996 Msx that I owned hit 142 mph!!! The 2000 has a gov set at 125mph. Performance tires are also reccomended (Pirelli's and Toyo's) So go out and get one or at least test it out. I'm telling you, it's the cure for a Camry, Altima, Accord, Passat...ect.

UNBELIEVABLE PACKAGE
I had enough with my Mercedes and the repairs and cost of repairs.....I bought a friends 200 Maxima with 216,000 miles on it...WELL! it's now 221,000 and i cannot get over how amazing this car is and still is. everything works like the day it was new. the previous owner basically only did oil changes, tires, brakes and had to do a caliper or two over the years. he also had o replace the catalytic converter..but really! an amazing car, and if you look , they are everywhere!

Only car I've owned
Other than a few typical problems you might encounter from an 8 year old car, the iwndows sometimes stall and my cd player skips, this car is stupendous.

Great Value
I bought my 00 Maxima GLE about 3 years ago with 51k on it and I'm extremely happy with it. I now have 98k on the vehicle and only really needed to do regular maint on it. Only thing was the muffler rotted off which I guess is acceptable in New England. Would definately buy another one, but only when this one blows up because I plan on running it to the ground. I sell used cars and have been for over 2 years and there isn't a vehicle I could see myself giving up my maxima for.

Performance & Reliability
I owned and was happy with a 2000 Maxima GLE for 7 years and 3 months with no major problems. The only complaint I had was that there was not enough lumbar support in the drivers seat for me. At the time I lost it (in an accident) it had over 94,000 miles on it and was still running great. I am definitely considering buying another Nissan. I'm just waiting to test drive the '09 Maxima due out in June!
