Expert 2023 Ford Edge review

our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Ford Edge?

The Ford Edge is a mid-size SUV that seats up to five people. It has a standard 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an available 335-hp, twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 that powers the performance-oriented ST trim level. The base engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the ST has a seven-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard. Competitors include the Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe.

What’s New on the 2023 Ford Edge?

The Edge gets an ST Interior Appearance Package but otherwise sees no changes of note.

What Features in the 2023 Ford Edge Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Cruise control
  • Cloth upholstery
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after trial)
  • Vertically oriented 12-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-centering steering
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Rear parking sensors

Available features include:

  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Remote start
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wireless device charging
  • Bang & Olufsen premium stereo
  • Navigation
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability

Should I Buy the 2023 Ford Edge?

The Edge drives well and offers good ride comfort, and its many standard active safety features are welcome. The base engine that goes in most trims delivers modest power, but the high-output V-6 in the ST is considerably stronger. It’s possible the Edge will be discontinued soon; it was last redesigned for 2015, and it’s showing its age against newer-design class rivals.

I bought this vehicle in December of 2023, and I have been pleased with the performance and the room inside the car. The boot (trunk) has lots of space. The silver paint with the black wheels looks really sharp. The best appeal for me to purchase this vehicle is that it's reported to rarely need to be in the shop for repairs. It's always been my experience that if you take care of your vehicle then it will perform well.

Dead batteries

The battery keeps DYING! Put a NEW BATTERY & it won’t hold a charge either. Why can’t the battery hold a charge? I’m always having to jump start my Edge. What is drawing power from the battery when the car is OFF???
