BUYER BEWARE: I went in with my daughter and her husband an hour before closing to look at their first big purchase as a married couple. They test drove with sales rep Dakota, everything seemed to be going well. We went back and forth on the price, and Cameron the GSM gave a great price on the vehicle, and we all agreed to take a night to sleep on it. The very next morning Dakota contacted my daughter to discuss status. Multiple texts later they came to an agreement on the price, with my daughter and Dakota setting the time to have the car ready. MY daughter contacted Dakota for the VIN number to give the bank so they can cut the check an hour before she would arrive. Dakota gives it to her, and then proceeds to tell her the car she was coming to get was being sold. My daughter called me upset that they sold the car out from under her. I called the dealership, they transferred me to Tony who is their sales manager. Tony had no empathy that my daughter's time was wasted and that she and her husband had taken time off to get the check to pay for the car. Tony also stated that even though my daughter said she was coming in that day to get the car, he stated that we're just like other customers who say they're coming in and that he was ending this call. We called right back, and Tony didn't even have the respect to answer the phone, and had his salesman Dakota handle us. I gave Dakota my phone number and asked him to give a message to Cameron to call us back, and it is after 5pm now and we have not heard anything. The initial opinion of Cameron was an upstanding, community focused businessman, and we are disappointed that we haven't heard anything. All I know is if I had a sales manger like Tony, I would be ashamed to have him representing my business, it was the worst sales representation of a business I've ever seen, and emphasizes why we buy over the bridge and will never recommend Gloucester Toyota after this.

Dealer response

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review. It is unfortunate the vehicle sold before your daughter returned to make a purchase. As Cameron explained on Wednesday evening when she left to think about it, we don't hold used cars. I did review the situation and found text messages from the Sales Person letting your daughter know someone was here looking at it and later letting her know they purchased it. I apologize that the Salesman did not tell you that Cameron was not in the office on Thursday to return your call. I can't speak to why Tony did not answer the phone but I can say that he was the only Sales Manager here on Thursday evening and he may have been with guests at the time of your call. I am sorry about the situation and wish it had turned out differently for your daughter.

Consumer response

If you’re going to tell what happened tell it right. Not once did Cameron explain that you don’t hold used cars. Not once did he ask for us to put a deposit down. Cameron said let us know tomorrow and my daughter did. What’s clear here is you sold the car for more money to another customer rather then keep your word to my daughter. We have the text messages as well and can post them. At 3:39pm Dakota states he was getting the car cleaned up and will have it ready for her at 5:45pm. At 4:34pm he’s giving her the VIN number for her to give to the bank to get the check and in the same text tells her an employee is with a client looking at the car and looks like it’s getting sold. What happened between 3:39pm-4:34pm that he was to get the car ready for my daughter? Everything in that text signified that the deal was done and it her car. So tell me where the miscommunication is. We did everything to make this deal happen, and the text messages prove that. Poor business, poor customer service, and worst experience at Gloucester Toyota.

I’m sharing this to raise awareness and also to see if anyone has any information. My Toyota Tundra had both catalytic converters cut off while it was parked at Gloucester Toyota’s service lot some time in the past few weeks. For context... my truck had been serviced there, and because the repair bill was significant, they parked it on service lot after the work was completed until I could pay the balance. I was told that was completely fine that I didn't come immediately and there was no urgency to pick it up. When I returned to get it, I started the truck and it was immediately obvious something was seriously wrong. I went back inside, and without anybody even looking under my truck I was told that both catalytic converters had been cut off. I was honestly shocked, not just by what happened, but by the response. I was given a repair estimate of about $5,800 and told to contact my insurance. There was no apology, no accountability, and no real sense of concern that this occurred while my vehicle was in their care. I’ve since filed a report with the Sheriff’s Office and opened an insurance claim (which unfortunately still leaves me with a $500 deductible). My truck was parked within view of their cameras and I was told that footage would be reviewed. I hope that’s the case, but realistically, that’s a lot of footage, and I don’t know how thoroughly it will be handled. I’ve done business with them for over 10 years, purchased vehicles, rented vehicles, used their service department, and even recommended them to others, I always had a good experience. That’s what makes this even more disappointing. (Someone said its under different ownership?) At minimum, I would have expected accountability and basic customer care given the circumstances. But some things are just not sitting right with me. If anyone in the area has seen or heard anything about recent catalytic converter thefts especially near that location, I would truly appreciate any information. *** update I called corporate to file a complaint After they had someone from the dealer call me. She was so uppity and fake on the phone just saying the same crap over again about not being responsible and no video evidence was found or exists to show. I was telling the story of what happened and I quote said: " they didn't even look under the vehicle how the xxxx are they supposed to know that the catalytic converters were sawed off without looking" she cut me off and got loud and was like I'm not going to have someone speaking vulgarities at me so you going to have to stop right there. I said I wasn't cussing at you I was describing the event and yes it is very upsetting. I went on to tell her that I run a business and if something were to happen I would ensure that I would provide proper customer service and resolve any issue to their satisfaction and file my own insurance claim if somebody's items were damaged or stolen I also said that a business with good customer service would have been attentive to the situation treating the customer with the utmost respect to resolve the issue and could have offered to fix the damage or at the very least pay my insurance deductible and break me off something for the inconvenience. I explained that part of my job I write policies, I do investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions and I most certainly suggest that they review their internal policies and improve they're systemic issues with corrective actions... oh boy she did not like that and that's when she said that she was done and hung up abruptly.

Dealer response

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review. As we discussed yesterday, we are very sorry for the theft that took place and that your vehicle was involved. We have been in contact with the Gloucester County Sheriff's department and our General Manager spent many hours reviewing our security footage. Unfortunately the security recording is only available for the last 30 days. Your vehicle was left on our back lot for about 60 days so it could have happened earlier than our recording allows viewing. We take theft seriously and hope the local authorities are able to prosecute those responsible.

This dealership Gloucester Toyota was great to do business with. Upon arrival we were met by Carter Hartley who was very kind and asked us if we knew what we were looking for. We told him our Jeep got totaled a week ago so we were looking for another Jeep. We looked at a few asked for his card, and told him we were just looking today & most likely would be back. There was no pressure from him at all and he thanked us for stopping by. We called him later that day and asked if we could come in on Monday to test drive one. He thanked us for asking for him and we set appt for 6:00. My husband then called him again on Monday to ask if we could drive two of them we were interested in & he said absolutely, I will have them pulled up front when you get here. We got there before 6 and they were waiting by the front door. Carter was with another customer so we waited for him & he apologized for taking so long which was not long at all. Owning a Jeep himself he knew all about them and showed us all the features & told us everything about them. We never owned a soft top, so he explained how it worked and showed us how to work it. Great guy very out going & happy to work with him on this deal. Needless to say everything went smoothly we bought the Jeep & couldn’t have asked for a better salesman. Kudos to him & I believe his name was John the finance gentleman who was also a pleasure to work with and also had a great personality. They both were a great pleasure to work with! We definitely will steer anyone to Gloucester Toyota as they both made us smile, laugh & just made the whole purchasing a vehicle enjoyable! Thank you and keep up the great work! Tom & Sheri Sommers
