Looking for a spacious family hauler to chew up miles of highway with a cabin full of people and a few tons of toys in tow? The Tahoe can do that easily, with seating for up to eight, a third row that fits actual human adults and pulling power, too — any powertrain configuration of the Tahoe equipped with the Max Trailering Package can pull at least 8,000 pounds. And if you want to cruise in luxurious comfort, the range-topping Tahoe High Country’s interior will swaddle occupants in cushy, high-quality materials. For the ultimate in road-trip comfort, both the High Country and Premier are available with Super Cruise hands-free driving technology. Owners can go farther between refueling stops with the excellent optional 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine that got up to 576 miles of driving range for 2023.
If you want sportiness in your Tahoe, try the RST, which gets some sleek styling, suspension enhancements and is available with GM’s superb Magnetic Ride Control suspension. Under the RST’s hood is the faithful 355-hp, 5.3-liter V-8 or more potent 420-hp, 6.2-liter V-8. Opt for the RST Performance Edition and you get 433 hp, plus performance goodies borrowed from the Police Interceptor Tahoe; it’s not quite the Bluesmobile, but the 1974 Dodge Monaco didn’t have three rows of seats, either. For a different kind of sport, the Z71 off-road trim adds knobby tires and smaller-diameter wheels for better performance off the beaten path, as well as excellent ride comfort on it, especially with the optional adaptive air suspension.
Whatever you want to do with your full-size three-row SUV, there’s a Tahoe for it, and that’s why it’s one of the best SUVs available.
