Tesla is recalling more than 218,800 examples of its Model 3, Model S, Model Y and Model X vehicles over an issue with the rearview camera.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2017 and 2021-23 Model 3 sedans, model-year 2020-23 Model Y SUVs, and model-year 2021-23 Model S sedans and Model X SUVs. The rearview camera image in these vehicles may not appear immediately when the vehicle is put into Reverse, reducing the driver’s rear visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, Tesla has released a free over-the-air software update. The automaker will begin notifying owners July 3, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Tesla at 877-798-3752 (Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-26-00-016), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
