Japanese automaker Nissan had a quiet 2025 in terms of major recalls, with just one at the start of the year. Unfortunately, that streak is over: In addition to a new recall for more than 318,700 Rogues over an issue involving the gears in the engine, Nissan is also expanding a previous recall for the SUV’s engine bearings to include nearly 324,000 vehicles.

In the first recall, affected vehicles include model-year 2024-25 Rogues. The gears in the electric throttle body assembly of the turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine may break and cause the vehicle to lose power, increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will reprogram the engine control module software and inspect and replace the electronic throttle body assembly, as necessary, for free.

In the second, which expands on a previous recall from July 2025, affected vehicles include model-year 2023-25 Rogues that are also equipped with the turbo 1.5-liter three-cylinder. Increased temperatures in the engine may break down the engine oil and cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, resulting in engine failure and a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash; damaged bearings can cause a breach in the engine and may allow the oil to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

To resolve this issue, dealers will reprogram the engine control module, inspect the vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes and test-drive the car. In addition, dealers may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine, if necessary. These repairs will also be done for free.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 27. Those with questions in the meantime can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261 (the automaker’s numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
