Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-23 Sorentos. As a result of a supplier quality issue, the connection between the blower-motor resistor and connector may overheat when the climate-control fan is on a speed of 3 and the ignition is on, increasing the risk of a fire. Warning signs may include a burning smell or smoke from the vents.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the wiring harness and blower motor-resistor for free. Interim letters notifying owners of the issue are expected to be mailed Nov. 24; a second letter will be sent out once the remedy becomes available, which Kia expects will be in December. Those with further questions can contact the brand at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC351), call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
