Jeep parent company Stellantis is recalling more than a million Gladiator pickup trucks and Wrangler SUVs over an issue with the power steering that may cause a fire.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-25 Wranglers and Gladiators. The wiring of the electric hydraulic power steering pump may overheat and cause a fire when in motion or when the vehicle is parked with the ignition off. A fire increases the risk of injury.

Stellantis is advising owners to park outside and away from structures until their vehicle is repaired. To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the affected parts, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters will be sent July 9, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact the automaker at 800-853-1403 (Stellantis’ number for this recall is 21D), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
