Great EVs, so hot right now. From Kia, we've got, of course, the EV9, the EV6, and from Hyundai, the IONIQ 5, the IONIQ 6, even the IONIQ 9, and now, from Kia, the all-new Kia EV4. Let's talk about it.
No points awarded if you can already figure out where the EV4 fits in Kia's model hierarchy. Correct, you can think of this as an electrified version of the existing K4 gas-powered sedan well, kind of. I mean, the EV4 definitely rides on its own dedicated and distinct electrified platform that it does share with the small, crossover-sized EV3 sold elsewhere, which we do think is gonna make it here eventually, and all of this does mean that, yes, this will compete with the Tesla Model 3. Yeah, good luck with that, but I do think this looks pretty good, and if Kia nails pricing, I think it'll be a success. This is an EV, so we better talk range and battery. Now, the base battery pack is a 58.3 kilowatt hour pack, available on just the light trim, and the upgraded larger 81.4 kilowatt hour battery pack will be offered on the Wind and GT line trims. Now, regardless of battery, all EV4s zip around with a single front-mounted motor. Stick with the smaller pack, and you'll get a Kia estimated 235 miles of range, jumping to 330 miles with the denser battery. That's pretty good, and if pricing stays as reasonably low as we are hoping, I think shoppers will snap these suckers up. All right, charging, so Kia says the EV4 will go from 10 to 80% charge in either 29 or 31 minutes on DC fast charge, depending on which battery you get, and all EV4s come standard with Tesla spec NACS charge port and 400-volt architecture, and while you're sitting at the Tesla supercharger, you've got all the time in the world to enjoy all the EV4's tech-heavy goodies and stuff the interior has got to offer, starting with dual 12.3 inch displays. Now, other than being pretty and reactive, these screens do offer available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and in typical Kia fashion, those are not the only creature comforts to be had. We've got heated seats, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, Harman Kardon upgraded sound system, the works. This thing is pretty nice in here. Is this the compact and presumably affordable EV sedan that you've been waiting for? Well, official pricing and EPA figures are still up in the air, but we're gonna keep an eye out for them, and when we do have them, you know you can read all about them on cars.com/news.
