(energetic instrumental music) (tires screeching) When Ford unveiled the original 1964 and a half Mustang, it didn't take very long for the automaker to introduce her performance edition in the GT 350.
Well, here we are many generations of the Mustang later, the latest 2015 redesign has just gone on sale. And here we have Ford bringing out a Shelby GT 350 version of that. I got to say, it's definitely a pony of a different Stripe. No more prancing horse logo here in the center of the Mustang Shelby GT 350 instead, typical of a Shelby model there's a Cobra emblem here, kind of over in the corner. Now, other bodywork is also pretty different here on the GT 350. You've got this lower opening here on the bumper. It's kind of got a frownier expression versus the smilier expression for the regular Mustangs. There's also bodywork here that kind of curls around to the outside. Really looks overgrown here versus kind of the straighter lines that run down the grill, upper and lower portions on the Mustang 5.0, the Mustang GT. Sort of has this overall kind of look of kind of a busted out look much like the Hulk when he flexes and breaks through his sleeves. I got to work out more. Now this is an early prototype at the auto show here. So Ford says we can't pop the hood or get inside, but there's definitely go to go with the show. A new 5.2 liter V8 powers the GT 350 with more than 500 horsepower, more than 400 pounds, feet of torque. Ford says it is the most powerful naturally aspirated, that means no turbocharger or a supercharger, V8 it's ever put into a Mustang. Overall related somewhat to the 5.O V8 in the Mustang GT, same 90 degree architecture, but new pistons, new connecting rods, a new crank shaft, six speed manual connects it to the rear wheels. It's a TREMEC unit, but it's been bolstered for this car in particular, a limited slip differential is standard. Now available features underneath the car include things like an adaptive suspension here. The brakes on this thing are the size of a small pizza, 15 and a half inch front discs with Brembo calipers, 15 inch rear discs also with Brembos. Now inside the GT 350, there are unique RECARO seats here, which have bigger bolsters in the RECAROs available in the regular Mustang. There's also less chrome trim, Ford says. And finally, there's a flat bottom steering wheel. The GT 350 hits dealerships sometime in 2015. Now will it have a starting price that somewhere around the $73,000 plus Chevy Camaro Z28, also a 500 plus horsepower car, or does this pave the way for a GT 500 with a supercharger turbocharger that makes more than the Dodge Challenger Hellcats 707 horsepower. All good questions that any muscle car enthusiast will want to know. We don't know yet. So stay tuned. (engine revving)
