The Chrysler 200 is all new for 2015. We've driven it. And we've found it to be refined, comfortable, and affordable. But even with a slew of new features and nice touches, it isn't perfect.
In terms of exterior styling of the 200 definitely has that made in Detroit feel. It looks like the big brother to the Dart, but ironically, it has more of a European feel than many of its competitors. Just like our longterm Cherokee, this comes with a four-cylinder engine paired with a nine speed transmission. Inside the 200, it's all new and all better. The materials are much nicer and it looks a lot like the rest of the Dodge and Chrysler family on the inside. It's got the great Uconnect system that we really enjoy. Although, to be honest, it like a lot of other systems, my Ford touch, Chevy link, all of those, there are still some lags. But by large, it works pretty well. A couple of cool things in here that are unique. Because they've gone to an electronic gearshift, now there's space underneath for storage. Here we've got a smartphone and it's cool, there's a pass through, allows you to charge that or a tablet as you need to. That's the next cool thing. There are cup holders here that you can move out of the way when you need access to the storage. Now, if you're like me and you can't live without that diet Coke, you can access that storage back here. In typical midsize sedan fashion, the back seat room is not too bad. My knees can be just about enough space, but I'm a little tight on the top, but I'm about six one. Now I'd put two adults comfortably back here. You could probably fit a kid in the middle seat, but why would you want to abuse them like that? The trunk is also better in the new 200. You'll see that about 20% more space than the previous one, but there's a couple of things to watch out for. One, you'll notice that the frame kind of intrudes at the pass through which means that if you're trying to put really long items in, you may be stuck. In addition, the swing arms intrude into that space. So you can't stack anything up too high. Is the 200 the right car for you? Well, if you want a midsize sedan that has distinctive styling in the class where a lot of them tend to look alike, it might be. But if you're going to pick one, we opt for the more powerful V6 engine over the four cylinder. On the flip side, to get that power, you'll have to pay for it.
