i love my GLX VR6

i've had this car for almost a year now and have had NO trouble at all. i love the way it looks. i have the double 5-spoke 17" rims that look amazing. the interior is great! sunroof is amazing and quiet. mine is fully loaded and i love every feature it has. down to the automatic windshield wipers. just turn them on and you don't have to fiddle with them at all. they go with the speed of your car and the intensity of the rain. AMAZING! the only issue i have is the gas mileage. if i drive 45 in the city and 70-75 on the freeway i get around 16.5 mpg. not great. but i've been getting around 19-21 by driving slower. so i guess thats ok. otherwise, i LOVE my car.

A Nightmare Car!

I've had this car for 3 years now and all this car ever put me through was expensive repairs, one after another. To make things worse, the repairs aren't as easily accessed, so the labor costs were usually double or more than the total cost for parts. This car has cooling problems to the max! It overheats often and will always be a continuous issue. If you're gonna buy this car anyways, be ready to hand over a big lump of cash every year, and sometimes less than a year to handle this nightmare of a car. This is the biggest mistake of my life!

Yeah, its gone

The best thing that ever happened is that my ex-wife totaled this car. It was a constant fight with the dealer ship to fix this car while it was under warranty. Read the fine print of the warranty. Do not believe the 10/100,000 warranty. We did everything according to the maintenance schedule but the engine was going to go anyway. The value of the car dropped $10,000 the first year.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0

I've owned this car since 2005 about three years now. I love the car its good on long trips rides easy and goes good in the snow for me, driving on back roads is fun cause the car handles well, but have had some issues with it, I bought the car used with 43,000 miles on it June 4th 2005 and since then have had a few problems where to start, i have had the sway bar bushings replaced due to them wearing out, the strut mounts needed replacing, have had the transmission rebuilt due to the syncros inside the transmission failing, serp belt replaced, battery died, mass air flow sensor failed, drivers door latch has broken twice on me, driver window fell inside the door, brakes seem to need to be replaced every year, fuel filter was replaced this year and it unlocked some hidden power that was being robbed by a clogged filter would recomend replacing every year, and you need a special tool to push the caliper back into its place, the crankshaft position sensor went bad and the car just died while going down the road and dont ever unhook the positive battery cable because your computer will need to be reset by the dealer which is very expensive the car has 104586 miles on it so things start going but most cars tend to have a period of needing stuff replaced on it i drive allot of miles a year and it does good for the most part have had some issues but they didnt all occur at once i love my jetta and would buy another one thanks for reading Jase

40mph Tbone, I'm still here.

I only had this car for a month but I was just in a 40mph Tbone accident with a police officer that ran a red light without sirens on. Anyways, the airbag deployed and i walked away unscathed besides some chest pain from the airbags. I would definitely buy another. Kept me completely safe, there were 5 vehicles including mine involved in this crash.

NOT THAT RELIABLE

I BOUGHT MY 2001 JETTA GLS 1.8T WHEN IT HAD 84,000 MILES. I REALLY LOVED THE CAR WHEN IT WAS BOUGHT. I READ ALL THE CARFAX REPORTS AND SEEN THAT IT HAD BEEN SERVICED ALOT. SO THEREFORE I ASSUMED THAT THE BELTS AND WATER PUMP HAD BEEN REPLACED ALONG WITH A TUNE UP. WELL AT 97,000 MILES THE WATER PUMP BROKE. AT 111,000 THE TIMING BELT BROKE. 2,000 MILES LATER, 2 BOLTS BROKE OFF AND MY ENGINE DROPPED 6 INCHES. AND NOW AT 127,851 MILES THE CAR WON'T WORK. BECAUSE A SPARK PLUG WENT BAD. BY THE TIME THE CAR IS COMPLETELY PAID FOR, I WOULD HAVE PUT MORE MONEY IN TO FIXING IT THAN WHAT I BOUGHT IT FOR. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I REALLY LOVE THE WAY THE CAR DRIVES. WHEN THE TURBO KICKS IN IT WILL FLY. AND IT HANDLES REALLY WELL. BUT WHEN SOMETHING MINOR BREAKS OR GOES OUT, THE CAR WILL NOT RUN. AND YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED INTO THE SHOP.

Great gas mileage, very reliable

I bought a 2001 TDI in October of 2000, and have continued to love it. It has over 100K miles on it now, and it still purrs. The gas mileage is unbeatable and the turbo has a fantastic kick! Have had a couple issues with peripheral parts on the turbo, but not the turbo itself. Once an air-flow meter died, and once a valve stuck that allowed air into the turbo. Both times, it was obvious its usual zip wasn't there, and the small fix was all it needed. My only gripes are the rubbery coating on the inside door panels that just get dirty and peel away, looking low-budget and nasty, and the issue with Volkswagens and their AM radio reception. It's an odd little idiosyncrasy of VW's (from what the car stero guys have ALL told me, as I've tried to replace my radio), that the radio antennae inside the car sort of randomly comes unconnected and is extremely annoying if you like AM radio. If AM isn't your thing, then no issues---I've never had a problem with the FM. Other than those quirks, great car. But don't necessarily trust the dealership to take care of you, as I did! I almost got hosed, as I didn't know the importance of replacing the timing belt at regular intervals (around 60K miles). I took it exclusively to the dealership for years, and they just let it go, never looked at it. At 90K, I took it to a local garage, and they replaced the belt and told me it could have blown at any time, costing me thousands to repair all the damage it would have done.

Cute, Cheap, yet too slow!

Well, I bought my 2001 VW Jetta GLS 2.0 Sedan in March of 2005. When I got it, it had only 60K on it. Well, now it has 110K on it. Yeah I drive it a lot. I have not had any major issues with the car, I've put an aftermarket cold air intake on it, a sports exhaust, altezza tail lights, and blue halogen headlights on it. YET IT'S STILL TOO SLOW! The car supposedly comes powered with a 115hp engine, however, everything on the road passes me from the light. I feel like I'm gassin on it too much when I take off (manual 5speed). I shift around 40RPMs and still feel like I'm gassing on it. fun to drive just too slow in my opinion.

BREAKS DOWN

My Jetta was purchased new and has around 70,000 miles on it now. It has needed a brand new transmission, and the new one is still acting strange at times, the bumper rips off if you touch any type of cement block in parking lots, the belts break regularly, and they need more oil than most cars. I know several other people who have Jettas, and after about 45,000 miles, they are trash. They shut off randomly and don't start, and the dealerships are no help. I would never reccomend a Jetta to a friend.
