Now entering its third model year, the Toyota Grand Highlander is unchanged for 2026. Eight-passenger seating is standard, and a seven-passenger setup with second-row captain’s chairs is available on every trim level except the entry-level LE. It is available with a turbocharged gas engine, hybrid powertrain, and the turbocharged and Hybrid Max setup. For 2026, the Grand Highlander starts at $42,855 and the hybrid version at $46,205 (all prices include $1,495 destination charge); the affordable three-row SUV is more than $20,000 cheaper than the Sequoia.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander goes on sale this fall. Full line pricing is as follows:

Grand Highlander

  • LE: $42,855
  • XLE: $45,625
  • Limited: $50,355
  • Platinum: $56,040

Grand Highlander Hybrid

  • LE: $46,205
  • XLE: $47,375
  • Limited: $53,705
  • Nightshade: $54,685
  • Platinum: $60,770

What Are the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander’s Powertrain Specs and MPG?

Non-hybrid Grand Highlanders are powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 265 horsepower and 310 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the LE, XLE and Limited, and all-wheel drive is a $1,600 option on those trim levels and standard on the Platinum. Toyota says the FWD Grand Highlander returns the same 21/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined as the 2025 model (official EPA ratings for the 2026 model are not yet available); with AWD, the LE and XLE are rated at 21/27/23 mpg and the Limited and Platinum at 20/26/22.

The hybrid powertrain carries a premium of $1,750 and consists of a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission; combined output is 245 hp. Oddly, FWD is only available with the hybrid powertrain on the mid-tier XLE trim; AWD is again a $1,600 option on the XLE and standard on the base LE and uplevel Limited and Platinum. The FWD XLE hybrid is rated at 37/34/36 mpg city/highway/combined; the AWD hybrids return 36/32/34 mpg.

With standard AWD, the Max powertrain is a $2,980 option on the hybrid Limited and standard on the hybrid Platinum. It pairs the turbocharged 2.4-liter with an electric motor for totals of 362 hp and 400 pounds-feet of torque and is backed by a six-speed automatic. It is rated at 26/27/27 mpg.

What Are the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander’s Trim Levels?

The entry-level Grand Highlander LE rides on 18-inch wheels and features LED head- and taillights, a power liftgate, windshield-wiper de-icers, and keyless entry and start. Inside, you’ll find cloth seats (power-adjustable for the driver), tri-zone automatic climate control, six speakers, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on the 2026 Grand Highlander and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. Blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.

Upgrading to the XLE nets buyers synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated front seats, second-row window shades, wireless phone charging and Digital Key, which allows owners to use their smartphone as a key and to monitor the vehicle remotely.

The Limited is the only Grand Highlander available with all three engine options. It includes 20-inch wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, LED daytime running lights and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Interior features include genuine leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, heated outboard second-row seats and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. Opt for the Hybrid Max powertrain and you’ll also get leather with synthetic suede accents and bronze-painted interior trim. The Limited also adds front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.

Only available with the regular hybrid powertrain (not the Max) and AWD, the Nightshade is nearly identical to the Limited other than its black 20-inch wheels and exterior trim. It also features unique dash and door trim.

The range-topping Grand Highlander Platinum is only available with AWD and either the non-hybrid engine or the Max turbocharged hybrid powertrain. In addition to unique exterior and interior trim, it features a panoramic moonroof, head-up display, heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats, a rearview-mirror camera, a 360-degree parking camera and traffic-jam assist.
