Best Car Oops SUV I have ever Owned

After much research and having owned a Mazda SUV for the last 6 years. My husband and I drove and compared many models. We tested Toyota 4runners and the Rav 4. I just couldn't bring myself to test the Ford Escape (to us it was just ugly). Having gotten used to gas mileage with my previous Mazda of 23/city and around 30/highway, I really wasn't willing to sacrifice my gas mileage. We finally decided to take a test drive and were immediately smitten by the CX-5. This was a vehicle my husband an I liked equally. I brought it home and was in love, but thought that might fade over time...but...it hasn't we are more in love with it today than the day of purchase. Ours is the 2013 Grand Touring AWD, with virtually every option but GPS and dimming mirror. The performance is amazing, the heated seats are a welcome change in cold weather. Love the back-up camera, blind spot indicators on mirrors, the moon roof as well as the push button start. But the thing we love the most is the gas mileage we average 28/town and 34/ highway. The fact that is looks fantastic with the 19 wheels and it drives like my sports car I had when much younger(I didn't say as fast) it handles like a dream. My husband who has always had trucks just said tonight he wouldn't mind having another CX5 to replace his truck(that speaks volumes my hubby would have NEVER considered anything but a truck. Mazda has exceeded our expectations on not only this vehicle but the one we previously owned. I could write a book on all the reasons why my family love this vehicle. You just have to drive it to realize you can have it all. Space, gas mileage, AWD, a smorgasboard of standard options, cargo space, roomy interior, as well as very comfortable to ride and drive.

continuation of earlier review

So after another 12Kmiles I can update. Cup holders still bug me. I live in the fingerlake area and can never get the 30mpg. If you live in a flat area, great, you will get the milage, hilly- forget it. But the important thing you need to know is, I drove it all winter. And I can compair it to other AWD drive cars, SUV's with and without snow tires on. The CX-5 does not inspire anywhere near the confidence on the snow than the hnda RTL truck or the IN FRONT do. I slid off the road twice going less than 25mph. Do I hate the car, no. But I am already looking for another car. The suspension is so taught that you feel every bump in the road. This means that on a long trip (to Myrtle beach for Thanksgiving) I was jostled the whole ride (except in DC where all the roads are brand spankin new). Took an American off road companies small SUV for a test drive and it was so much smoother than the CX-5, I was again pained at the hit I'm going to take when I sell. And If you are a parent over 5'11", forget about sitting in the front seat with a child seat in the back. The child seats don't fit in the middle space. So figure out your seating arangements first (Same problem in the CX-7). So I have some miles on mine, Take this review for what its worth.

Nice Mix of Size, Comfort and Economy

Needed to move out of a two door sports car into something with more utility to cart around my new grandson and his stuff. The CX-5 is a great mix of size, comfort and economy. Plenty of room for 5 people to be comfortable. Lots of cargo space for hauling lots of stuff around, especially with the back seat folded down. Even the mileage is good at 34 MPH with automatic transmission. Takes regular gas too. No sticker shock either. Only down side is a little sluggish when accelerating onto a highway. Would have liked a 6 cylinder option. Otherwise, really good.

Perfect for my needs. 2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD

I really love my Mazda. I've worked at a car rental company for the past year and have driven most of the competition. I bought the Touring with the AWD package. The blind-spot monitors and rear-view camera have already been life savers. I love the interior. Its simple, clean, and doesn't have a million touch buttons like the new Ford Escape (Dad always said "Keep it simple, Stupid."). Driving a CX-5 feels just like driving a sedan. My mpg has been low 30's on the highway and mid 20's around town. The acceleration is noticeably less than some of the competition but I really don't care about that. I've had her for 4 months now without a problem. Just as an FYI, there is a noticeable difference in power/mpg between when she's cold and when she's warmed up. I can drive up and down my street on a freezing morning and get 18mpg on the instant mpg screen that improves to 27mpg by the time she's warm (acceleration improves as well). With the way she's geared, there seem to be a few sweet spots for mpg vs speed. I frequently get 45mpg doing 50mph on a straight country road. I only have few suggestions for the next CX-5. Who forgot to put a light in the rear cargo area? That's my only dislike and should be fixed for the next model year. Rear proximity sensors would be an awesome option. The camera is super nice but beeping sensors based on proximity would be much appreciated (many of the competitors have them as an option). That said, I love my Mazda! It's a nearly perfect machine that's perfect for my needs :)

Love my Mazda!!!

My husband did a lot of research searching for an affordable suv for me. He showed me a pic of the CX5 and I fell in love! It is an absolute joy to drive. Comfortable, classy, sporty. It has all the power I need and I do occasional highway driving. No problem in the passing lane! I love the Bose speakers and the bluetooth. No problems at all since purchased.

Most Comfortable Car Ever

I like everything about this small SUV, which I've had for 6 months. I've had compliments about how sporty it looks, and it rides very quietly and smoothly. I'm averaging 26 mpg in city driving and 32 on highway. I love the BSM, and I had rear sensors installed, which makes rear backup doubly safe (I have the rear-view camera also). I made the right choice when I researched small SUVs.

Zoom Zoom

My boyfriend had just given me a lecture that there is never an excuse for buying a brand new car when 5th gear failed in my Toyota. He fell in love with the CX-5 on a test drive, and as much as I was expecting a fight he was really happy that I bought the Mazda the same day. I have driven it for 11 months now and love it just as much as the day I drove it home. I consistently get over 30mpg and it is fun to drive. Great in snow and for hauling supplies. Fun fact - you can fit 5 cases of toilet paper in there if you need to.

Maybe the best car for the money on the market

Due to cost I keep a car a lot longer now than I have in the past. My last new car was a 2005 model. I looked for about 18 months before I made a purchase this time. I was trading a Honda CRV and I wanted another small SUV/CUV. I waited until all 2013 models came out before making my decision. I wanted a car with as much of the latest technology as I could find at an affordable price. It came down to the Mazda CX5, Honda CRV, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4. When I test drove and compared the vehicles it became an easy decision. The Mazda stood head and shoulders above the competition. I had a rather long list of required options with the blind spot monitoring system being a must. The BSM was available on the Escape & RAV4 but not on the CRV. To get that option, however, it drove the price for the entire package well above $30,000 on the Ford and Toyota SUV's. I settled on a 2013 Pearl White Mazda Touring with black interior including the upgraded sound system, moon roof, and technology package. The sticker price was $27,505.00. It has all the bells and whistles I wanted including HID headlights, fog lights, Bose sound system, home link rearview mirror, keyless entry/operation, rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, blue tooth, navigation. It had everything I wanted and some more things I hadn?t even thought about. I love my new Mazda. I drive almost 100% in town and I'm averaging 29.2 MPG. The only negative I initially found in the car was the 155 HP engine but that hasn't proven to be a problem. The CRV I traded had 160 HP but the Mazda engine has proven to be more than adquate for the kind of driving I do. I notice the 2014 CX-5 engine has been upgraded to 185 HP. I'm glad I bought the 2013 model because I'd rather have better MPG than a few extra horses under the hood. I haven't found anything about the car that I don't like. In fact, it's an absolute joy to drive. I've owned a lot of cars in my life but I think I'd have to rank my 2013 CX-5 at the top of the list for value, practically, and just being a flat out fun car to drive.

Too new to judge but excellent so far

The handles well and has enough power, fuel mileage is fair but with only 600 miles on it the rating should be getting better.
