This was my first time owning a Kia, and my Forte EXGDI

This was my first time owning a Kia, and my Forte EXGDI starting burning an inordinate amount of oil when it had around 80k miles (almost entirely freeway miles). I started keeping records of the oil consumption in 2019. I've had to check my oil levels weekly for a long time. The numerous times I mentioned it to the local Kia dealer when I was in for recall notices, I was told that it was normal. I subsequently learned that they didn't document any of those inquiries—I didn't realize that I should have ensured they were documenting my concerns about oil (which aside from being a pain, I suspected would lead to problems with my catalytic converter, etc.). Additionally, since about 2 years into ownership, I had to run only premium fuel (and regular Techron fuel treatment) to keep the car from pinging. Anyway, the car eventually started running terribly, and I confirmed that the catalytic converter was shot...as I've long feared would occur. The dealership quoted almost $3k. Even with that repair, the high oil consumption will prematurely clog up the new cat converter, obviously. I recently sold my "still looked pretty nice but would barely run" Kia for $1k. Btw, there has since been a recall, but my vehicle didn't qualify because by the time Kia acknowledged a problem with their GDI engines, my car was several thousand miles past the recall parameters (max 150k miles). I've never encountered a less scrupulous brand than Kia. I tell EVERYONE WHO WILL LISTEN...if you have an opportunity to buy a Kia, RUN AWAY. SAVE YOURSELF. If I can dissuade just one person from experiencing the frustration and mistreatment I've gone through at the hands of Kia, I'll be grateful.

Buyer Beware

Great car first 50k but got tired rather quickly. (Obsessively followed maintenance recommendations) *2 recall replacement engines later, Replacements aren't as peppy or as fuel efficient as original engine (which I ❤️'d!) (1st replacement recall engine developed irreparable oil leak @ only 3500 miles!) 2.0 GDi engine must continually have intake valves cleaned to remove carbon buildup. Suspension is comfortable in city driving but bumpy on highways (like a trampoline!) At bridge joints & dips you must take it slower than normal. Paint chips very easily. Seats wear prematurely. This car must be pampered or it will disintegrate! Overall, Nice tech pkgs & accessories (usually found on higher end vehicles) but electronics seem to wear out prematurely as well (backup camera/UVO System/sensors) Good car for low budget, value oriented shoppers but you'll be much happier spending a little more on a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. After owning this car for 10 years the only reason I don't replace it is because the engine only has about 50k on it & new vehicle prices have gone through the roof as insane inflation continues. For the money & on paper, KIA has great offerings but fail to deliver (as far as my experience is concerned) in driving & ownership confidence, real-world driving experience & peace of mind.

Very well packaged.

I bought this car about a week ago in the Forte5 hatchback Instead of the sedan since I liked the look of the hatch better. So far it’s been great for little run around trips and I haven’t had to fill up the tank! The engine does like to idle at a low RPM usually below 1000 which I’m pretty sure is just how the car runs but it makes the car vibrate slightly but as long as the needle doesn’t move I think it’s ok.

Great car for college student

My daughter needed a car at school and we were looking for a low mileage used sedan. Car had less than 50K miles and was in excellent condition with new brakes. We have driven Kias for years and have no doubt this will be a reliable car for her
