The Isuzu Hombre is made for the Japanese automaker by Chevy, which isthe reason the Hombre is an S-10 pickup truck with a novel name. The 4x2extended cab (Isuzu calls it a space cab) we tested, therefore, has all theadvantages of the S-10, such as the 4.3-liter V-6, four-wheel ABS, daytimerunning lamps, Scotchgard fabric protection, side facing jump seats for thekids in the rear of the cabin and 15-inch all-season tires to name a fewitems. But there also are the drawbacks–only a driver-side air bag until the1998 model year. Base price for the 4×2: $16,413 plus $835 for 4-speedautomatic and $125 for the slide-open rear window.
