Somewhat Reliable SUV
I own it since October 2007. It has about 175,000 miles and still running strong. I like the exterior design (one of the most beautiful Santa Fe) and the paint still looks amazing. I should start off with the cons. I have all the problems that most 07 Santa Fe has i.e., throttle position sensor, fuel tank gauge, gas tank door switch, visor hinges (both sides), window regulators (3 of them), door lock latch (2 of them), engine gasket leak (cause alternator to fail), ambient temp sensor, suspensions, light bulbs, ESC check lights, air back lights, control arms (both sides) etc. All problems mostly happened during the first 5 years. Too bad that most of the failures happened before the recalls or not included in the recall (out of the warranty of couse). The only recalls that I could claim are the leak gasket (alternator included) and air bag clock spring or whatsover. Everything else was fixed out of my pocket. I believe they have too many faulty designs along plus a loose battery terminals. Once I took care all the problems and threw away the battery terminal cover (to let the terminal sit properly), all the problems were gone. Now I have a very realiable car with zero to no issue except for a noise from hitting potholes from front and rear (only happens when the car has a rocking motion). I don't know what causes it even I have it checked with many machnics but to no avail. The first 7 years I told myself that I would never buy Hyundai again but in the end I think that they have a very realiable powertrain. The electornics and sensors are the majority of the problems. The gas milege is bad but not too bad. I think they got caught of lying about the sticker. Do I want to buy Hyundai again? Maybe. I heard that Hyundai/Kia reliability is improving but I will be reading lots of review before buying it. The Palisade looks amazing though.

Worst car ever.
In 2017, I originally bought an 08 Ford Escape from a dealership. I had just turned 18 and needed something to get me to and from work and college. Well, long story short it needed a new transmission AND engine so I brought it back to get into something more reliable, which I hoped to be the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. I was wrong. 2 days after getting it home, check engine light comes on. Take it in to the mechanic and they tell me my catalytic converter is broken and it's $1,000 to replace..I decline because in my state it'll pass if it's there, doesn't have to actually work. My permanent fix was putting electrical tape over the light. Since then, in the last 20 MONTHS that I have owned this vehicle, I've had the following problems: 1. The radiator had a hole and needed to be replaced (almost ruined my engine from overheating) 2. the alternator needed replaced...twice. Turns out there was a recall back in 2016 for the cover valve, as it was leaking oil into the alternator and ruining it. So I got one from auto zone and had my friend replace it both times 3. we replaced the cover gasket because the first time it was at the dealership for that problem, they clearly didn't fix it 4. my ESC, ABS, and AWD lights came on, paid $300 for a new speed sensor 5. brakes/pads needed replaced 6. replaced another speed sensor 7. now for the best part...the electrical issues A. the locks on the doors go off randomly when I drive B. the back doors don't lock unless you crawl back their and manually lock them C. one of the window switches is broken D. the charging ports don't work E. the left turn signal hyperflashes when the brake is applied F. all of the lights dim when the brake is applied G. the cruise control doesn't work H. the car dies randomly when I drive it and to be honest, there probably have been more repairs but as you can see, there's too many to keep track of Worst part is that I got this xxx on a loan, so I'm stuck with it until it can be paid off. It's in the shop right now. I'm at 168,xxx miles and I don't think it's going to last much longer...I would never ever EVER recommend that anyone buys this vehicle or any Hyundai ever. Crappy design, crappy performance, just a big bucket of trash. I hate it.

I'm now selling this car, but I'LL SURE MISS IT!!
It has been a very reliable, practical car... I have loved it! It has lots of miles left in it, and it's in almost new condition. I now have a bigger vehicle, but it isn't nearly as agile or fun to drive!

Not very dependable. Lots of issues.
Bought car couple of years ago from original owner and it has been in shop for various problems at least five times. I realize it’s an older car, but this seems like a lot. Most expensive fix being new air conditioner.

Best on ice & snow, VERY SAFE CAR
I am super impressed with Hyundai Engineering. The Electronic Stability Control is AMAZING. My step children are ski racers, and My wife and I ski & are on Ski patrol. So we driveALL over Colorado & Wyoming in bad weather, usually on windy 2-lane mountain roads. I normally drive slower than most traffic, buti find myself passing cars on bad roads with this Hyundai. We got the AWD GLS model. I drive rental vehicles a couple times a year, and I've never driven anything that compares to Hyundai's ESC. It has tons of airbags and safety features, but as far as I'm concerned, the best way to survive an accident is to avoid it in the 1st place. I HIGHLY recommend the car. I had 147,000 miles on it when it was T-Boned. Even an Awesome ESC can't help that.. I am shopping for another, same year, same~ model, ... (Santa Fe All Wheel Drive w/ ESC)
