Friends are jealous
I've owned the Civic Hvbrid for 2 months and have averaged over 45 mpg for 2600 miles of mixed driving. Handles nicely and as others mention a pleasant surprise from my 2002 Civic. Easyy to get used to driving and playing the mpg game... Lows: Do notice the CVAT pulsing from time to time looking for the right gearing. Honda has skimped on some things for which you have to pay for as dealer options, like fog lights and interior curteousy lights. Road noise loader than necessary, likely from LR tires. Overall a very decent communter vechile

A Hybrid that's Affordable & a Real Car too!
Excellent giddy-up and go. Handles marvelously in traffic, in town, and weekend adventure treks. The interior is roomier than it looks from the outside. Comfortable for everyone whether driver or passengers. Safety features are well thought out as are the controls -- such as understanding how one's driving and braking and the road conditions are affecting the use of the electric vs. gas portions of the hybrid system. The autostop feature (turns off the gas engine and uses the electrical/battery) when stopped at a light or in traffic is excellent -- especially as Honda has arranged for the air conditioning to run off the electrical/battery at these times too. Highly recommend this car! We've previously owned Honda Accords. Originally wasn't going to consider this Civic Hybrid because think of Civics as too small. This one is closer to the size of Accords. A real treat to drive with the GPS and XM radio. Our family of 4 is enjoying this car enormously -- including the new driver in the household.

As soon as you can get one----Buy it.
Honda does it again. Super handling and ride. Guages are awesome. Radio plays well. Added XM. Got 45-48 mpgs the first 2500 miles. No complaints there. Dumped a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado SS that got 16 mpg's for the civic. Happy with decision at $4 a gallon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Car
I just bought mine a week ago. I went from driving a Tahoe to this thing for strictly financial purposes. I was surprised that for such a small engine it has plenty of power. The ride is very comfortable and the gas mileage exceeds what is advertised. The only drawback is the limited options Honda has for this vehicle. I got mine with the navigation but that was all that was offered. I would've liked to have gotten a moonroof, leather, tinted windows, and bluetooth. Overall this is a very good car for the money. Especially with gas at $4 per gallon it really does pay for itself.

pleasant surprise
I purchased the Civic Hybrid in anticipation of $4.00 per gallon gas. I was expecting good gas mileage but a not-so-good driving experience. Boy was I wrong. The car handles like a dream and has better acceleration than I expected. More important, I have only filled the car three times in 1500 miles - 44 mpg average!! I bought the nav system. It took a while to learn the system, but I now love it. My neighbor purchased a Prius about 6 months ago. He gets slightly better gas mileage, but he paid $2000 more than I did for his fully loaded Prius and he will not receive a tax credit. I wish the car had Bluetooth and rear cup holders, but these are relatively minor concerns. Overall, this is the best new car I have purchased in twenty years.

great car at a great price
I researched hybrids and narrowed it down between the Prius and the Civic. I chose Honda because it's a better looking car. I got one with navigation and love it. I get 40 mpg all around and it handles beautifully. I paid about the same with navigation as I would have on a Prius without navigation. I now have a '08 Lexus and an'08 Civic hybrid. If I were to do it over again I would buy 2 Civic hybrids.

44.5 mpg on highway trip
Love it! Feels like an upscale vehicle, unlike the Prius which to me felt cheaply appointed. We have only taken one trip thus far but got 44.5 mpg roundtrip Lex, KY to Indianapolis

Early opinions of the Civic hybrid, 2008 model
This car is easy to overlook at the dealer, since you'll see only subtle differences between the hybrid and conventional Civic. In fact, this car was purchased more from the aspect of technical intrigue, than just the economy of use. Initial impressions: Testers report that performance is rather meager..it is, compared to more powerful cars in the Civic or the Accord line, but who cares? The car was intended for commuting, ease of parking, and general challenges of stop and go. No need for V8 performance there. But, on the first trip home from the dealer, I was astounded to see 49.8 mpg on the computer screen readout. This being accomplished by careful driving, not so much to impress with the mpg, but since the car is new, I wanted to give it some break-in considerations; despite the dealer stating it 'was not required.' The car has nav, and it seems easy to use. The radio is adequate, but won't win over teenagers used to chest thumping stereos. What would impress anyone is the relative quietness, and overall clever use of space, and simple, quiet way the computers organize the driveline management to deliver the mileage. The bottom line: If you want to gain economy. and would like to frequent gas stations less, something has to give. What you have to give up is any thoughts of blistering acceleration, dealing with the smallish trunk with 10 cu. ft of luggage space, the lack of sunroof option, as well as no Bluetooth. If what you need is a car that is reliable, can more than keep up with commuter traffic, and you have a commute of some distance each day, or, plan on keeping the car 100k or so over several years, buy one. Do this before the next gas crunch hits, and the dealers jack up the price. I am fortunate to have a relatively new Corvette C6 as well as the Civic, and I do find the Civic, in its own sensible way, probably more logical and just as compelling to drive as the C6. Both cars would put a smile on anyone's face, but, the Civic would charge less to do it.

High tech in a compact package
Purchased the Civic hybrid 2 wks. ago. 1st fill up yielded 42.75 MPG with mixed driving so I expect this to hold up. Exterior looks like standard Civic. The Hybrid comes with almost everything standard, including alloy wheels and a good stereo system with MP3 plug. Dash a little funky with readout on 2 seperate panels. Also the dash is a little low and will cramp the knees of large front passengers. Also the long dash makes the front end of car impossible to see, takes getting used to. Hard to notice any difference in ride from normal gas engine except for little jerk on stop and start from red lights. Peppy enough in most driving situations, handles and brakes well. Good value with tax credit and considering the terrific gas mileage. If you're thinking about purchasing a small car, definitely consider a hybrid.
