Nitro Designers Don't Get It.

From complete satisfaction with a Jeep Grand Cherokee to utter disappointment with a Nitro. Seven months in new SLT, 3.7 liter, so-called 4x4 and I can't wait to get out of Dodge. A 4x4 that you have to switch back to two-wheel drive at 50 mph doesn't cut it in Canadian winter driving. At $34,000 in Canada, grossly overpriced compared to the competition. Rides like a tank, ackward handling, especially when cornering, not a lot of power. It's a sheep in wolfes clothing. It must have been a very steep hill, with a strong tailwind while drafting a semi when the mileage tests were done because in reality it's a guzzler compared to its claims. The new owners of Chrysler should leave the SUVs to the Jeep engineers, they get it. The Dodge gang really missed the mark.

New Nitro is Great!

I just love my new Dodge Nitro R/T! It?s is unfortunate that Dodge had problems with a few of the first Nitros. All major problems have now been addressed and there is nothing to worry about when deciding to get this vehicle or not. Taking into consideration that this is a SUV and not a crossover design, that gas mileage is normal for its weight and shape. Road noise is low and handling is great considering the higher center of gravity. The safety features include electronic stability program, traction control, 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes, brake assist, and side curtain airbags. The looks alone sold me on this SUV. I just love it, and so do a lot of my friends and family. I have caught a lot of motorist on the road just staring as I drive buy. The Nitro has all the options you could want, including the ?My Gig? Navigation/Entertainment system. With the ?My Gig? I can store loads of MP3s and pictures on the 20 GB hard drive, watch DVDs (while in park), and get directions to wherever! The premium stereo package is worth it and you even get a sub-woofer in the rear cargo area that doesn?t hinder your cargo room at all. On the R/T trim level you really get the whole package and you feel like you?re the VIP. The interior is great and functional with all the door pockets, deep center storage bin, load and go rear sliding cargo floor, fold-flat seats, reclining rear seats, and cup holders. You even get a power outlet to charge your laptop, portable DVD player, cell phone etc. Everyone who complains about the Nitro should have got that boring Toyota Rav4 or Honda Element. GET YOUR NITRO TODAY!

Awesome car!

I love the car. It handles well, rides great, Looks great.I have had this car for 4 months. I have had one issuse with this car. I heard some squeaking coming from the passenger wheel. Took it in and found out it had something to do with the 20 Inch Chrome wheels. They put a seal on it and haven't had any issue since then. I Dont know what you guys are talking about not being happy. Everyone I have talked to said they LOVE IT! Would buy another one if I could.

DISSAPOINTED BIG TIME

I'VE HAD MY NITRO FOR THREE MONTHS ONLY 2,200 MILES AND READY TO GET RID OF IT. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS OTHERS WITH THE CAR JUST CUTTING OFF AND THEN MYSTERIOUSLY COMING BACK ON. I SEE THAT THERE IS FINALLY A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM THEY SAY THAT A POWER MODULE HAS TO BE REPROGRAMMED. RECENTLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HESITATION. DODGE CUTOMER SERVICE IS THE PITS. THE CAR IS TOO NARROW, MY SHOULDERS ARE ALWAYS ON THE CENTER PILLAR NO MATTER WHAT POSITION THE SEAT IS IN. FIT AND TRIM HAS CHEAP MATERIAL. FIRST AND LAST DODGE.

Best vehicle I have ever owned

Best vehicle I have ever owned. I have had no problems with it at all, and I am just around 10,000 miles in a little under 2 months. Great styling, smooth ride, and not too bad on gas for an SUV. Overall 5 stars!

Somewhat Disappointed

I've had my Nitro for a couple of days. I was gonna buy a GMC Acaidia but just fell inlove with the Nitro. I was 100% convinced I loved my sunburst orange SUV. That didn't last long when I found out it didn't have automatic headlights. I still thought it was a great vehicle but then I can't get the Uconnect to work. OK, still love it. Then just recently I started to notice the A/C doesn't work properly. I turn on the truck and after 10mins the air is still blowing hot or room temp. It also takes a long time, if at all, to work properly. The Nitro doesnot have as good an A/C as it should. Also, the shift gears are too far away from the driver. Someone with short arms will have problems. I'm taking it to get checked out at the dealership and if it keeps acting up I'm gonna return it and go straight to GMC. I'd recomend this truck to someone after a couple of more years when they get these problems worked out. I do like the sportyness of the RT. Other than those glitches I love it.

Nitro No No

Bought my Nitro new in Oct. I wish I would have waited until there was some reviews out there! I relied on articles and studied the Dodge website, I thought I was getting a good vehicle. The exterior styling is awesome and there is a lot of cargo room when the seats are folded but kinda cramped interior. I have had many of the same problems reported here!!! Same problem with the jerking at 35-45 mph, molding above window split and lifted up, problem with motor on passenger side windows, and car suddenly cut off in traffic (all lights on dash lit up and car went dead!) Took forever to get new molding, all they did for the window is grease it (still not right), and had no explination for the car cutting off. Also the package we purchased has 6 disc changer, satellite radio, and dvd player, but no screen to watch dvds!!! We even emailed customer service thru dodge website to find out how to use dvd player without a screen! They told us to contact parts dept. at our local dealer, well needless to say our dealer knows almost nothing about the Nitro, so we are still without a screen! Going to get rid of mine!

Bye Bye Nitro

I've had my Nitro for 7 months and have put on 12,000 miles already but it's time for it to go. The truck has spent most of its life at the dealership for the vibrating at speeds between 40-50 mph problem ( only one of many problems). After multiple reprograming of the computer, replacing the torque converter and shaking a bag of chicken bones over it, it still has a vibration. The service manager has informed me that its a problem that is inherent to the 3.7L engine with the auto trans. That all the vehicles with that combo do it. Well if a company builds a vehicle with a known problem it's no wonder the company won't get picked up by a decient automotive line and get sold to a company outside the industry. I'm back to a rock sold Honda or maybe I'll try my luck at Toyota this time. Bye Bye Dodge Nitro.

A blast to drive

500 miles and no problems - I bought and SUV, it runs like an SUV, rides like and SUV................Wow it's an SUV. So it doesn't powder my nose and it doesn't look cute, if you want a pansy car with body parts that "look" like an SUV - but is really a car, there are already plenty of these on the market (see Toyota and Honda). If you want to have fun - get the SXT Manual. I've read reviews complaining about handling and not feeling comfortable cornering........................wimps should stick to their little cars if they are scared being more then 4 inches off of the pavement and stay out of the SUV's. I own a RAM 1500 Quad cab and a Suburban (both 4X4's) - the Nitro handles like the smaller SUV it is. In the last 5 years we have replaced our 3 Cherokees: '85 was in an accident ? donated - 274,000 miles '89 sold to 19 year old Daughter - still driving it - 260,000 miles '99 Grand traded in for the RAM last year - 155,000. If you keep up you vehicles - they last. I wanted a on-road SUV with 4X4 that could handle light off-roading (i.e. towing a trailer with Quads back off the road a ways) or switch to 4X4 in snowy conditions. I wanted interior cargo space - at least comparable to the Cherokee's I have owned. I wanted power to get up and go - without using as much gas as the Suburban or Ram. I got all that under?????$25K. I test drove many cars and SUV's over the months leading up to this purchase (I?m 6?2? 250+ lbs ? many so callled SUV's I couldn?t even get in). My RAM is an ?06 ? and the quality got me back into Dodge for this purchase. I wanted a smaller SUV - I didn't want a power puff car, I got more then I expected for the price and I am very happy with the Nitro.
