2002 had a good run

i bought my car used back in 04 i just now really started to have problems with it...i however would not recommend this car because when it does break down it cost more in labor to fix because everything is so hard to get at. However if your looking for comfort this would be a good car n it runs pretty good but when it starts to break it breaks qucik and fast and the problems just keep getting worse.

My 2002 Dodge Intrepid ES

I bought my Intrepid brand new in 2002. I love it. I use it as a company car/personal car. It currently has over 148,000 mile's with no problems. The only thing I had to do was put freon in the AC.

Transmission problems

I have the 2.7 V6 model 2002 Intrepid. Overall the car performes average. I didn't expect much from Dodge- all I wanted was a reliable car with no major problems, but I guess thats to much to ask for. I purchased my Intrepid in 2009 with 85,000 miles on it. Unfortunatley the transmission slips which I didn't notice when I test drove it. The transmission slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear so I took it to a dealership under warranty and they did a $1300 transmission job on it. Got the Intrepid back four days later and the slipping still continued just as bad as it was before. I then put in transmission additive fluid which did absolutley nothing. I should have done more research before buying the Intrepid. I would never buy any Dodge again. They are known for transmission problems. Dodge? More like dodging a bullet.

Nice, but for one thing...

I admittedly bought this car used in early 2009. This car is used by police forces all over the country but I bought one with the smaller engine. It handles extremely well, but as you might expect of a car with great handling, it also makes you feel every bump in the road - and in Michigan, there's a lot of them to feel. So far, so good. First problem with it is that the paint job scratches easily and a simple car wash can make the paint chip off. The next problem is that it burns oil after only 70K miles. I'm not sure if this is because of the last owner or the engine, but burning oil after only 70K miles is something of a let down. But the real problem comes from the charcoal canister designed to capture fuel fumes. It's so poorly placed that you cannot fill your tank up completely. You must avoid topping your tank off at any time. If you do, the gasoline will slosh into the canister and soak the charcoal. This will give you a check engine light and error codes. If left alone, it might (and I emphasize 'might') dry itself out eventually; or it might need replacing every time you mistakenly fill your car up completely. Even if it does dry out eventually, you can expect several months of looking at the check engine light; not knowing if it might be masking some other reason why it might be on. I talked to the dealership and they claim this is not covered under warranty Gee, I wonder why? Maybe because if they had to replace them every time someone filled up their gas tank, they would be employing thousands of extra garage mechanics indefinitely just for the job. The gas tank needs to be at least partially dropped out of the car in order to replace this canister.

One of Dodges Best!

I bought my 2002 Intrepid ES 3.5 V6 in early 2006 with 55,000 miles on it. This car has been great. I have really been hard on this car and it has still treated me well. The only thing so far that I have had a problem with is the timing belt which should be replaced in any car around 100,000 miles. My Intrepid now has 108,000 miles on it and its still running strong. Just a word of advice for those looking to buy an Intrepid... Only get the 3.5 engines. You most likely won't see 100,000 miles on a 2.7 V6.

Wish they still made them.

We bought our 02 intrepid with 20,000 miles on it in early 04.When my wife purchased another car last year we passed the intreped down to my teenage daughter. The car now has over 126000 miles and looks and runs great. The only thing I have done to the car is just the norm. Tires, brakes, and small body repair which was self inflicted. My daughter has now purchased another car and with regret I am now selling the intrepid. It has even crossed our mind to sell the wife's car and continue driving the intrepid. I wish the still made the Intrepid and I would be driving one today

The R/T's ROCK !

I've never liked any FWD car before the Intrepid. This car feels and handles much more like a RWD, which it was designed to be (both FWD & RWD versions were originally planned). The looks & style are fantastic, and still look modern - and even futuristic - today. The favorite part, for me, is this is the BEST handling sedan in it's class, period. She's large. She's heavy. She's not the fastest - though very respectable at 7.9 sec. for 0-60 - but, with the way she can hold curves, nobody beats me in the twisties... with a sedan. And, for long trips, you can't beat the ride, either !
