Still kicking myself for getting rid of it.

I traded mine in at just shy of 200k miles only because needs dictated a pickup instead. Regular maintenance ONLY for all those miles / years. I had a fairly base model, which had the cheapest interior Dodge offered... it was functional, took a beating, but did suffer a few little annoyances with stuff falling off the side of the driver's seat. It also had it's fair share of body rust, but that was par for the course in a vehicle of that era, especially when subjected to Michigan winters. Right now I'd like to find another mid 2000's for special occasions / people hauling.

I love my 2004 Durango - best car I’ve ever had &

First battery replacement at 13 years, tires only changed once, serpentine cable replaced at 12 years. 70,000 original miles. For Over 50 years I’ve driven all over America & have had many cars - the 5.7 ltr Durango is the best of the best!! Just got a 2018 ram bighorn 2500 diesel pick up which I love also. But the Durango is my favorite.

A great full size SUV, handles very well/spacious

I bought mine used with 123,000 miles. It has the 4.7 liter engine. Has lots of power very spacious and comfortable. I like to do as much mechanical work myself as I can do so I had to get my hands dirty somehow. This vehicle ran well when purchased but after reading more about the 4.7 liter engine, I decided to change some gaskets as it had some oil leaks. I will be changing the oil every 3,000 miles to keep this engine in top condition. Long story short, I pulled the motor out and replaced all the gaskets and seals, freshened up the valves and replaced the valve seals, valve springs and lifters. I wound up replacing the timing chain gears and guides. The oil pump is located behind the timing chain so I replaced that as well. I replaced new fuel injectors and spark plugs. I intend to keep this vehicle for a long time and this is why I replaced so much. I found out that the engine had been rebuilt about 6 years earlier so I did not get into the rings or bearings for a complete rebuild. I am sure that I could have just ran the vehicle as it was when purchased but for longevity and the fact that I had the engine removed is why I decided to do so much. ( I have a 1997 Ford truck that I have had for 10 years) This vehicle runs as new and is a very comfortable vehicle to drive although not the best on gas it is not the worst either and the trade off for comfort is fine with me. I purchased this vehicle for $3K and spent about $2200 in parts. I saved a ton on labor. Don’t recommend anyone doing all that work if you don’t have mechanical knowledge but like I said the vehicle ran well when I bought it and looked like it was well cared for. it’s just that I like to do the work and have the time. This is an awesome choice for a full size SUV and would recommend it.

Under rated. Love this Durango!

Got mine pre owned with over 100k when i bought it. Bough it to pull boat, and drive a short distance to work. Hemi V8 AWD. When i bought, all services had been done, and a few aftermarket upgrades. Main issue i had was the AWD system locking in and out when putting in reverse, or when hitting lock or unlock on remote while outside of vehicle, apparently pretty common. Possible a wiring upgrade needed on transfer case? I unhooked AWD for now. Hemi is a beast, has over 230k, seems to still drive strong. Hemi is a great engine. Had to do some service recently, but expect it by the miles, and the regular driving it gets.Would absolutely buy this vehicle again, over and over.

Awesome SUV - I drove one for 16 years!

This is hands down the best SUV I owned. Never had one mechanical problem. I accomplished all fluid flushes and oil changes and she ran beautifully. Used her to tow 6,200lb camper from California to Maryland to Florida to Maine. Mine had a great run before I finally sold it at 16 years, 151,000 miles. Totally underappreciated vehicle, probably because it's domestic.

Good in dry climates

I had high hopes because I see so many on the road. The water pump was the first thing to go and since replacing I've had overheating issues. Flushing and a new thermostat didn't help and the dealer claims it runs as it was designed to!! ...huh!? Driving in snow is a whole different issue. Horrendous is the best description! ...even in 2 inches of snow it fishtails like a minivan. Again, the mechanic says" all Durangos are designed the same way" Very disappointed!

Power and luxury.

Very roomy. 3rd row is a life saver. We pile up the whole family in here and go to the beach. Has the same luxury as a mini van with out the "mini van". 😁The hemi gives it so much power. And the 4wd comes in handy alot. No worries about driving on the beach anymore.

Chrysler fails on issuing recalls .

When I get the defectively designed windshield cowl and possibly defective hydraulic roller lifters replaced ( doing the work myself ) it will be a good vehicle. Chrysler ignored the needed recalls for these defectively manufactured parts . I will never have another Chrysler product .
